Historical Commission Board Meeting Minutes September 1, 2016 Present: Bill Segars, Chairman; Sarah Smith, Patty Holley, Loris Flowers, Suzanne Calcutt, Jane DuBose, Hunter Jordan, and Carolyn Govan. Guest: Rita Nuckles Marker Program: Darlington Manufacturing text prepared and waiting on funding. Round-O marker text approved and sent to Sewah Studios in Ohio. This one is a community historical marker. There will be another marker for Round O Church and the school. Each of these two markers being paid for by the African American Foundation.

Interns: Two already working here and two more will be coming soon. Collections: The Mary Demetrious Collection almost ready to bring to the Historical Commission. “The Year of Conservation” project is running well. A document was found showing the donation of our portrait, “Lady of Mystery”. Other News: The Historical Commission’s new brochure still waiting on the map. The Moses Bacot gravestone will be erected at Lowther’s Hill Cemetery by the Pee Dee Rifles and will erect a marker also, in October.

Donations: The Mims-Josey property owners allowed Brian Gandy to go through their collections and to obtain historical items for the Historical Commission. Visitors: 360 summer visitors and 541 hours of volunteer work Open House: At the October 8 “Sweet Potato Festival” the Historical Commission will be open. ODDC: The Old Darlington District Chapter in Hartsville donated 2500 books, 3000 family name files, many file cabinets and files, and much microfilm to the commission. Jacob Kelley outbuildings will be repaired. Non-budgeted monies will be used for certain things. Jacob Kelley Open House is Saturday, October 1st and also the 1st Sunday in December. Kay Williamson is retiring from the Historical Commission on Wednesday, October 26. New Officers for the Historical Commission Board: Bill Segars, Chairman;, Hunter Jordan, Vice-Chairman; and Jane DuBose, Secretary. Next meeting is Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Historical Commission headquarters.
