Historical Commission Board Meeting Minutes January 7, 2016 Present: Bill Segars, Chairman; Sarah Smith, Robert Harriot, Loris Flowers, Suzanne Calcutt, Jane Dubose, and Brian Gandy The meeting was held at the Historical Commission building. Bill called meeting to order. Minutes from the December 3, 2015 meeting were read and unanimously approved. Marker Program: Darlington Manufacturing Co. timeline of events text is being worked on . By February the Lumber marker text should be finished Mayo Interns: Continuing to work well. Brian met with Scott Lynch to discuss the “Top 50 Things to do in Darlington County”. Brian suggested 50 sites he thought worthy of including. He also sent Mr. Lynch info to start off with. Pay Pal is up and running. Major Projects: Masonic Lodge info is still being processed. Ex-Gov. David Beasley is working on his material to donate. New brochure for the DCHC designed by Brian Gandy is in process. Guest: Mr. Roosevelt Wallace, a guest of Sarah Smith, showed the board members his Purple Heart medal and explained its significance. Mr. Wallace also shared info with us about his work with a group to help others who have earned the Purple Heart to obtain that medal. Donations: The News and Press office donated many photos from their collection. Steve and Anita Nail donated another $4,000.00 for the preservation of Historical Commission documents. Visitors: There were 95 visitors in December 2015. Other: The African American Research and Cemetery Protection Workshop will be held at the Historical Commission building on March4-5, 2016. The Florence Stockade 3-D artifact will be donated to the Historical Commission instead of the Historical Society, but first it will be placed in the Darlington Co. Library for display. It is built to museum quality. Next meeting will be Thursday, February 4, 2016. Adjournment: Bill Segars adjourned.
