Calico Christmas Sampler Block 2– Tree Ornament
3” x 4” Start with 4” x 5” background. Trace appliqué patterns onto fusible web (or print onto printable fusible with ink jet printer). The patterns are reversed. Iron fusible to wrong side of wool. Cut out on the lines. Trim one side of the 1” x 21/2” green strip with a pinking rotary blade. Then trim the other side to 3/8” x 2” with the pinking blade. Use placement pattern to fuse appliques onto applique pressing sheet and then press onto the background center. Stitch appliqués down using blanket stitch and matching threads. Note for extra detail I made my stitches meet in the center of the ornament's hanger scallops (in purple wool). Instead of a blanket stitch I sewed a running down the middle of the green strip.
Stitches are shown in in blue on placement pattern. Trace the detail onto Sulky Tear Easy. Sew gold Valdani 12 wt. pearl cotton and an outline stitch to make the parallel lines on the ornament. Stitch the hanger in gray with an outline stitch. Use ivory to stitch the flower with a lazy daisy stitch and the remaining detail with a long stitch. Sew colonial knots shown in green and sew down beads shown in red. Use a pinking rotary blade to trim background to 3” x 4”. Proudly display until next month! Enjoy!
