Diversity Committee Meeting Monday, July 11, 2017 USTA NorCal Office NOTE: All minutes are final after approval by the committee chair and all committee decisions are subject to final approval by the Board. Committee Members Present: Craig Pasqua, Chair; Vince Owens, Martha Ehrenfeld, Carl Mendoza, Darren Moore, Rosalyn Moya and Patty Nuñez Committee Members Absent: None Staff Members Present: Steve Leube and Silvia Dueñas-Bielser Craig, chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, called the meeting to order at 7:06 pm. The following motion was duly made and seconded: RESOLVED, to approve the minutes of June 5, 2017. The motion was approved by a vote of 6 in favor, 0 opposed and 0 abstentions.
Chair’s Report – Craig Pasqua Craig welcomed everyone. Craig reported on the Backesto Park court unveiling event. Craig and Carl discussed court activities for event. Staff Report Silvia reiterated Craig’s comments Don Johnson event at Backesto Park. She reviewed flow of the day, special guest, etc. In addition to Craig and Carl volunteering, Darren signed up to volunteer too. Silvia reported that D&I sponsored Stockton Pride. Silvia recapped the D&I camp held at Mills College. The committee discussed camp 2018 format- either a camp or a travel team. Silvia updated committee on the Kids Day at Bank of the West Classic. Vince committed to recruiting volunteers from UPS and Darren volunteered to assist as well.
Budget Craig highlighted that spending YTD stands at 30%. Old Business Darren gave a recap on the Epsy’s. He recommends attending next year. Committee discussed strategy to reaching out to Oakland high school programs with aim of marketing scholarships. . New Business While there is no official committee meeting scheduled in August, Silvia asked committee to select a date in August to discuss TDW (Tennis Innovation Workshop) applications.
Committee selected August 23 at 8 am to discuss applications to the Tennis Innovation Workshop. Silvia reported that National D&I department is coordinating a Pride Night at Bank of the West Classic. Committee expressed interest in having a Committee retreat in 2018.
