Coaches Guide: Secret Eating - Part One

You  can  easily  adapt  this  Guide  to  work  with  a  group  or  one-‐on-‐one  coaching  clients.    The  questions  are       simply  suggestions.    As  the  coach,  you  are  the  best  judge  as  to  how  the  discussion  should  progress.

Audio  #1:  Why  We  Feel  the  Need  to  Eat  When  We  Are  Not  Hungry!     Description:  In  Audio  #1  we  bring  to  light  the  real  emotions  and  motives  behind  secret  eating.  It’s  time  to  be   really  honest  with  what  is  motivating  the  behavior  that  you  know  is  ultimately  holding  you  back.     Audio  Discussion:   Depending  on  your  coaching  session  format,  you  can  use  some  of  the  following  questions  as  discussion:   Amber  talked  about  the  definition  of  secret  eating  and  shared  different  styles  and  how  it  holds  people  back.       • • • • •

Which  type  of  secret  eating  style  did  you  relate  to?   How  is  this  holding  you  back  and  affecting  your  life?   What  does  food  represent  to  you?   Where  do  you  feel  out  of  control  in  your  life?   How  does  food  play  a  role  in  this  area?

Belief  Systems  have  been  shaped  by  our  experiences  from  the  moment  we  entered  the  world  until  now.  Belief   systems  affect  how  we  view  ourselves,  how  we  view  others,  how  we  use  food,  how  we  take  care  of  ourselves,   what  we  believe  our  potential  is  in  the  world  and  MORE!   Amber  talked  about  Belief  Systems,  calling  it  “BS”  as  to  why  the  weight  won’t  come  off.         •

What  belief  systems  do  you  have  around  your  weight  that’s  holding  you  back?

Let’s  talk  about  Pain  and  Pleasure  related  to  eating.  People  make  decisions  based  on  whether  it  will  move   them  away  from  pain  or  towards  pleasure.   • • • • •

What  pain  are  you  avoiding  in  your  life  with  food?     What  feelings  of  pleasure  do  you  experience  when  you  eat  unhealthy  foods?   What  emotions  are  underneath  that  pleasure?  OR  What  feelings  do  you  feel  after  you  indulge  in  the   unhealthy  foods?   What  would  be  possible  in  your  life  if  you  stopped  this  behavior?   What  behaviors,  habits  or  hobbies  could  possibly  replace  this  behavior  that  would  move  you  towards   healing  and  open  up  the  possibility  for  you  to  be  free  and  healthy?
