2017 Bond Election “Investing in Our Children” These improvements will help in several ways: The Depew Public School District will be voting February 14th on a $4,990,000 bond for improvements at the Elementary building. Items covered are:       

New metal pitch roof 14 New HVAC units New fire sprinkler system New ceiling and lights New flooring 7 new windows Adding a 1,968 sq.ft. rectangular safe room on to expand the cafeteria  Adding new restrooms by the Pre-K classrooms  Adding (1) classroom All of these items are needed at the elementary. This will be a property tax increase. The average household will pay about $50-$75 more per year.

 Give us a much needed safe room  No more leaking roof  Pre-K and kindergarten will have better access to restrooms  Face lift to the building  The middle school and High School can go to the cafeteria at the same time allowing us to save time in transition. The School Board and I have spent bond money very wisely and will continue to get the most we can out of every dollar. We are committed to giving our students the best we can provide. Thank you for considering this plan.

A word from the Superintendent. This bond has been in the works for 2 years. The School Board and I have trimmed $685,000 off since we last ran this bond. We did this by making the safe room a rectangle instead of round and smaller. This helped with lessening the tax increase. Our current millage is very low. The only way to pass a bond big enough to make a difference will be to raise the millage. These are not unnecessary projects. Our district is getting old and needs attention. Since I began working in the Depew District our State Aid money has went from $969,441 to $724,095. That is a $245,346 difference. As each year passes this difference really adds up. My point is we are managing our money wisely. We just are not in a position to keep up with the costs of major repairs or replacements. My dream is that we would never have the need to run a school bond. Bristow, Stroud and Gypsy have all passed bonds in the last year. We are all in the same financial situation. Money is tight for everyone. Call or come by my office if you would like to talk about this project. Thank you for almost 7 years supporting me and your school.
