2017 6U/8U REFEREE TRAINING Each 6U and 8U team must have two volunteer referees. AYSO is a 100% volunteer organization. Our trained and certified referees and coaches, together with the parents, make Fun, Fair, and Safe play possible. Each Saturday, two referees (one from each team in a match) officiate their teams’ 6U or 8U game to ensure the game is fun, fair, and safe.
If a game has no trained and certified referees, the kids cannot play. You do not have to know the Laws of the Game. AYSO San Mateo will train you to be a 6U/8U referee. Training consists of a Safe Haven online course, a CDC Concussion online course, and an hour in-person class. You will be supplied a whistle and a volunteer T-shirt. If you have been certified as a 6U/8U referee in the past (your certification is in eAYSO or Blue Sombrero), you do not need to retake the class. You do need to have taken the Safe Haven online course in 2016 or 2017 and CDC Concussion online course and pick up this year’s 6U/8U referee T-shirt at one of the training sessions.
