Wisdom – Value for July Wisdom isn’t the same as knowledge, so what is wisdom? Wisdom is: knowledge that is gained  by having many experiences in life the natural ability to  understand things that most other people cannot understand knowledge of what is  proper or reasonable: good sense or judgment

Wisdom is about being prepared to listen to the advice of others, thinking before you speak and choosing silence over words. How good are you at choosing wisdom? How could you get better? What helps you to make a wise choice? Who do you think is a wise person and why? Why is an owl a symbol of wisdom? Some interesting quotes about wisdom:

‘The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing’. Socrates ‘Science is organised knowledge. Wisdom is organised life’. Immanuel Kant ‘The desire to reach for the stars is ambitious. The desire to reach hearts is wise’. Maya Angelou ‘You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions’. Naguib Mahfouz

Graduation Ceremony Graduation Ceremony Tuesday 21st July 9:00am in West Herts College During your child’s journey through our school they will have the opportunity to participate in three graduation ceremonies at the end of Reception, Y2 and Y6. Each time they graduate from one key stage to the next. Hopefully you will be able to attend and support your child as they make this big step in their educational career. Rewards will be issued for a number of different areas, and every child will receive their End of Foundation Stage certificate. Our staff will be adding to the proceedings by personalising each child’s achievement on the day. Don’t worry about your child getting back to Ascot Road safely as we have booked a bus for the return. Make sure that you save this date in your diary! We anticipate the ceremony will last around 40-45 minutes.

Open Evening What is an Open Evening? A celebration of your child and their achievements over the year! Our Open Evening runs from 4:30-6:30pm on Wednesday 15th July. This is your family’s opportunity to come in to school with your child and browse through all their books. They will be able to show you pieces of work of which they are extremely proud. You will be able to see the progress your child has made across the year and talk with your child about some of the photographs in their books. Displays are up around the school demonstrating our children’s ability in the arts – look out with your child for their piece of work. Your child’s teacher and LSP will be in the classroom to support you if you don’t understand something in your child’s book. Please note, this is not an opportunity to talk to the teacher about your child. Parent’s Evening took place in May. Drop in with your child during the evening and make sure that you visit the next classroom – Year 1 is opposite the Nursery. All the classrooms will be labelled for your information.

Sports Day Due to the excessive heat last week we had to cancel our joint Sports Day with Lanchester CFS at Cassiobury Park. Despite the threatening clouds, our first Ascot Road Sports Day was an amazing success. The children had enormous fun. Almost all of our children had someone to watch, cheer on and support them. Our staff supervised the rotation of activities extremely well. We need to extend a huge thanks to Mrs Evans for organising such a smoothly-run Sports Day. Thank you to all parents, relatives and friends who came to help make the day such a success! Photos from the day are on the Class Newsletter.
