May I take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support with GCSE Religious Education. However, we have reserved tickets for the 22nd November but at a different venue. The GCSE Christianity and Conflict candlelight conference that we are now attending will take place on Wednesday 22nd November 2017 at City of London Freemen's School, Ashtead. The session is exactly the same and again, has been carefully designed to support the new 2016 specifications, focusing on the Beliefs and Teachings of Christianity and the core Ethics themes of Religion and Human Relationships Religion and Life and Religion, Peace and Conflict. The aim of the conference is to reinforce knowledge of specified topics, but more to extend students' understanding and support them in beginning to analyse and evaluate key questions in Christian Ethics, establishing the skills and enthusiasm necessary for A Level. The day will now be as follows: 

8.45am students to be registered and meet in dining hall.

9.00am leave school to travel to Ashtead in a school minibus to then arrive at City of London Freemen's School.

10.00-11.00am. First session. Who was Jesus? This introductory session, which uses Art and plenty of film clips, will put students' study of Christianity into context by introducing students to the "quest for the historical Jesus," challenging their preconceptions about Jesus and his teachings.

A 30-minute break. Students to bring drink or snacks.

11.30-12.30. Second session. The focus shifts to the Doctrine of the Sanctity of Life, considering its origins in the Hebrew Bible and Jesus' teachings and how it has shaped Church teachings over two millennia.

12.30-1.15. Lunch. Students should bring a packed lunch, water bottle and snacks.

Education for life in all its fullness

1.45-3.00pm. This session will explore Christian Pacifism and the development of Just War Theory, still the primary source of teaching on War for the Roman Catholic, Anglican and Methodist Churches, using clips from recent documentaries and news reports to bring the theory to life. This session will end with a lively DEBATE on whether Christians should continue to support "just" wars.

The day will conclude with a session focusing on exam technique, explaining how to develop written arguments which satisfy the requirements of GCSE A02 and the longer 12 mark answers.

3.00pm students to depart from Ashtead.

3.00pm – 4.00pm students to arrive back at school.

The total cost of the trip remains at £20.00 which includes travel to Ashtead. The cost also includes a full-colour printed copy of the exclusive 32pg revision guide for each student and some digital resources. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely,
