Market Theme U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Telecoms and Technology sectors led shares higher. Asian shares gained on Thursday with Tokyo hitting fresh record highs as the region monitored President Donald Trump's extensive tour through Asia now in China after leadership meetings in Japan and South Korea and ahead of an APEC summit.
Chart of the Day The negative relationship between a dollar index and emerging-market equities that has lasted for most of 2017 is reversing as they have moved in tandem since early September. Typically, the dollar strength is a headwind for theemerging markets and their assets, said Kenta Tadaide, market economist in Tokyo at Mizuho Bank Ltd. Currently, stocks in developing nations have been supported by strong corporate earnings amid global economic recovery story.
