Overview The Director of Finance will provide exceptional financial support to one of UKA Ventures’ partner organizations. This individual will be responsible for managing the finance function at Zearn, Inc., a nonprofit organization building best-in-class digital learning curriculum for K-8 children across the country. The Director of Finance will report to and be supported by UKA Ventures’ Senior Advisor and will play a key role on a team that currently supports three entrepreneurial organizations with plans to bring more on board soon.

The Role The Director of Finance will oversee and manage all financial activity at Zearn, including: • All accounting activity and payroll • Annual budgeting and monthly financial reporting • Long-term financial model revisions • Annual audit • Implementing new financial systems and continuous improvement of financial operations • Contracting with individuals and organizations • Organizational insurance and benefits • Compliance with regulatory agencies • Management of junior finance staff (currently an outsourced bookkeeping service)
Qualifications • • • • • • •
BA/BS; Master’s degree preferred At least five years of experience with three years in a finance-related position Deep understanding of accounting principles with knowledge of nonprofit accounting Expertise in Excel and familiarity with PowerPoint Strong project management, systems-building, and organizational skills Professional and friendly demeanor with demonstrated success in service-oriented roles Commitment to closing the education achievement and opportunity gap

Director of Finance Job Description About UKA Ventures UKA Ventures is an education nonprofit incubator founded by education leaders with over 20 years of experience developing, launching and operating successful schools and education programs. By providing start-up expertise, strategic guidance, and fundraising support, UKA Ventures helps entrepreneurs focus on developing and executing their programmatic vision and build a new organization. Our first project was the Teacher U at Hunter College program, a teacher training and certification program that evolved into the independent Relay Graduate School of Education that now serves 1,700 students in teacher and school leader training programs across 8 campuses. UKA Ventures currently supports three start-up projects: Zearn, a non-profit digital learning organization; Generation Teach, a summer teaching fellowship program for high school and college students; and Cooperman College Scholars, a college scholarship program for high-potential, lowincome students from Essex County, New Jersey.
