About the Eagles

The Eagles were hurt by a slow start at MSOE last Tuesday but were able to hang on for a 75-73 overtime win at Rockford on Saturday. Edgewood College enters this week tied for fifth in the NACC and can clinch a NACC Tournament spot with a win and a loss by either Lakeland or Aurora on tonight. MSOE hit 16 of their first 20 shots last Tuesday to pull away early from the Eagles. The Eagles were up 4-2 after a Courtney Spangler jumper but simply couldn’t keep pace with the red-hot Raiders. The Eagles stepped up defensively after the break and held them to 16.0 percent (4-of-25) in the second half to creep back within striking distance. A 10-0 Eagles run to make it 57-43 would be the closest the Eagles would get. Courtney Spangler had 12 points and six boards to lead the Eagles while Mariah Hill added 10. Rachel Pope scored five of the Eagles’ seven points in OT against Rockford to secure a victory that had almost slipped away. The Eagles hit 10 of their first 13 shots and led 46-33 at halftime, but after extending their lead to 16 in the early goings of the second half Rockford began hitting shots. Pope hit a layup and a three-point play early in OT to grab the lead and the Eagles would gather four offensive rebounds in one possession to run out the clock. The Eagles snagged 61 rebounds in the game, their second most in school history.
