EngradePro Standards Gradebook Pilot Settings: 1) To begin, click on Settings in the left sidebar of your demo account. Scroll down to the Gradebook Configuration section, and choose the type of gradebook your school would use.

Standards Based Gradebook removes the traditional gradebook function from this class, and allows you to create assignments that don’t necessarily have a traditional grade—the focus is on how the students performed on the standard assessed by those assignments ONLY (i.e. you do not need to keep record of how a student might have performed out of 100 points, you instead only want to record standards scores). Classic + Standards (Scaled) uses both the classic gradebook and the standards gradebook; the standards scale is independent of grading scale. Standards scores will be automatically scaled to your gradebook scores, but may be changed as needed (i.e. a student who scores 75 out of 100 on an assignment will earn 3 out of 4 on a 4-point scale, but you may award the student any score you think he/she has earned). Classic + Standards (Mapped) uses both the classic gradebook and the standards gradebook; the standards scale is mapped to the grading scale (i.e. your scale could be set such that 85% automatically

earns a score of 2.5 on the standards scale). Standards scores will be automatically scaled to your gradebook scores, but may be changed as needed. 2) Next, click on the Standards Settings tab near the top of the page. For “Standards Based Gradebook” and “Classic + Standards (Scaled)”, the standards scale should be set with a “low” values, “high” values, a grade letter or number for that section of the sale, and a longer description of what that grade letter or number means. You may also click on the colors on the right side to set a color. The Scale Max Value is the highest number in your scale.

For “Classic + Standards (Mapped)”, the standards scale l should be set with a “low” values, “high” values, a grade letter or number for that section of the sale, and a longer description of what that grade letter or number means. You will align this to your grading scale, so the number of sections should be the same for each part of the scale.

You will also need to set a Mastery Score. This is the score at which the student is considered to have “mastered” the standard. The Mastery column on the gradebook page will reflect scores at and above your Mastery Score. 3) Once your scale is set, you will select the other needed options for your standards gradebook:

Calculating Standard score Average – This option will average all scores for a standard and present the overall average for that standard in the standards gradebook. Most Recent – This option will show the most recent score for that standard; you may weight this so that the most recent score for that standard will be weighted more heavily. Max Score – This option will show the highest score earned for that standard; you may weight this so that the highest score for that standard will be weighted more heavily. Median – This option will show the median score for that standard. Standards Filtering All Subjects – Checking this box will show you all subjects for your grade level, if you would like to be able to tag standards in subject areas other than the subject area set for this class (i.e. if you would like to tag Math standards to an assignment in your Science class).

All Grade Levels – Checking this box will show you all grade levels, if you would like to be able to tag standards in grade levels other than the grade level set for this class (i.e. if you would like to tag 3 rd grade standards to a 2nd grade class).

Standards Mode Basic – When you create new assignments, Engrade will automatically calculate your standards scores relative to the scores you enter for an assignment (i.e. if a student earned 75 out of 100 points, they will automatically earn a 3 out of 4 in the standards gradebook). Teachers must go back to the assignment if they wish to make adjustments to standards performance. Most teachers will use Basic Mode. Advanced – When you create new assignments, Engrade will show you a grid as you enter scores that allows you to see the standards scores next to the traditional scores/points, which you may update as you see fit.

Creating Assignments and Adding Scores: Standards Based Gradebook You will notice that, when you select and save the configuration for Standards Based Gradebook, the “Gradebook” option is removed from the left sidebar of your screen. To create new assignments, tag standards, and enter standards scores, you will use the “Standards” page in your left sidebar.

Click on the “+ New Assignment” button. Enter a name, date, category if needed, and click on More Options. From More Options, select your standards set from the drop-down menu, and then click on “Tag Standards” to choose the standards for your assignment.

When you click on “Tag Standards”, a pop-up box will appear that allows you to browse through your standards to select the needed standards, or use the search box to look for key words in standards to select. The standards that appear reflect the subject area and grade level set for the class (unless the standards settings include all subjects and/or all grade levels).

You may use the small grey/black arrows on the left side of each standard group to locate the indicator you are assessing. Notice that the check box to the left side of the larger group is filled when sets/indicators within that group are selected. Engrade calculates a standard score by indicator, but also “rolls up” these scores into an overall average for each category and subcategory of standards.

Feel free to tag all applicable standards. Once all of your standards are tagged, click on Enter Assessments near the bottom of this page to enter student scores. Enter scores relevant to your scale. For example, if the highest score in your scale is 4, then all values should be entered out of 4 points.

Click on Save Scores at the bottom of this page to see the scores in your Standards gradebook.

Classic + Standards (Scaled) and Classic + Standards (Mapped) On your gradebook page, click on “+ New Assignment”. Enter assignment information, including a number of points possible, tag standards, and click on Enter Assessments. On Basic mode, you will enter student scores as usual, click on “Save Assignment”, and Engrade will automatically fill a standards score for each standard based on each student’s overall score. On Advanced mode, you will enter scores after clicking “Enter Assessments”, and if “Link assignment scores to assessment scores” is selected, Engrade will calculate standards scores based on your assignments scores. You can adjust the standards scores to reflect the standards score your student has actually earned.

If you would like to uncheck the “Link” feature, you may enter assignment scores, and then enter standards scores separately. The “Fill Blanks” button will allow you to have Engrade calculate any standards scores or assignment scores that have not been filled. The “Clear All” button will remove all scores. Once saved, standards scores may then be viewed by selecting Standards in the left sidebar of your account.

Using the Standards Page: Basic Functions When you select Standards in the left sidebar of your account, you will see an overview of your standards scores.

In the Assessed column, you will see the percentage of standards that have been assessed for the student (i.e. if you have 50 standards available for your class, and you have tagged 10 standards in your assignments, your percentage bar will show 20%). In the Mastered column, you will see the percentage of standards for which the student has earned a score above your Mastery number set on the Standards Settings page (i.e. if the student has been given scores at or above the Mastery number for 9 out of the 10 standards that have been tagged in assignments, the Mastered percentage will show 90%). You may choose to see only certain standards categories by using the All Categories drop-down menu above the standards gradebook.

Clicking on a blue score in the gradebook for an individual indicator will allow you to view and edit all assignments for which that indicator has been tagged for that student. This pop-up box will also allow you to create an individual assessment for a student (discussed later in this guide).

Clicking on a student’s name in the far left column will show you a page with the student’s standard scores and information.

If you hover over the “All Assessed” button, you may select to view standards Mastered or Not Mastered. If you hover over the Student Name button, you may select a different student. Filter On the Standards page, click on the Filter button to change the viewing options.

Giving a Student an Individual Assessment If you would like to give a student an individual assessment and standards score that is not given to others in the class, locate the student’s name on the Standards page, and scroll to the standard needed. Click on the blue score that already exists for that standard, or the small blue dash in the box for previously un-assessed standards. Click on “Add Individual Score.”

Give the assessment a title, select a category if needed, set a date, and enter the score out of the maximum for your standards scale. If you enter a score for a previously un-assessed standard, the individual assessment will increase the percentage of the bar in the Assessed column on the standards page for that student.

Assignments Tab Clicking on the Assignments tab near the top of the page will allow you to see an overview of your class’s assignments and standards progress.

From this page, you will be able to manage existing assignments, tag additional standards for assignments, or use the small gear icon to the far right of the assignment name to edit the assignment. You have three graphs: 
