For the week of May 28, 2017 Scripture: Exodus 14 “A Picture of Hope” Big Idea: Stand firm in your faith and trust in the God who delivers us. 1. When in a moment of crisis or trial, where do you tend to turn: God? Self? Others? Things? Why?
2. Read Exodus 14:1-4. Why did God turn the Israelites back in this story? Has God ever taken you on a difficult route so that you would trust Him more?
3. Read Exodus 14:10-14. The Israelites were tempted to go back to the “good old days” in Egypt. What was wrong with this thinking? How have you been tempted to go back to the good old days before being set free in Jesus?
4. Moses encourages the people to stand firm. Why would this action (standing firm) be considered a victory? How do we practically “stand firm in the Lord?”
5. Read Exodus 14:15-18. What does verse 15 reveal about God’s perspective on our troubles? What does God reveal about His purposes in verse 17? Does He still want to do this in our lives today?
6. What does God ask of Moses in verse 16? Do you ever underestimate the power of simple obedience to God’s Word? How does God want to work through His people today?
7. Read Romans 8:1-2. In what ways has Jesus provided ultimate rescue, deliverance, and hope in our lives?
8. Read Exodus 14:31. What impact did this rescue have on the Israelites’ faith? How long does it last for them? How can we learn to stand firm in the Lord and trust in Him for victory in lasting ways?
