Here’s how to cook one half of a one pound box of pasta-rotini on the stove top. Use in salads, as an ingredient in another dish, and as a side dish. It’s good to know these particulars: If you’re cooking the entire one pound box of rotini, you will need 4 quarts, or 16 cups of water (step 2). No other changes. Get a clean liquid measuring cup, water from a faucet, a clean pot for cooking, one half of one pound box of pasta - rotini, a clean, long handled spoon for stirring, a clean strainer placed into a clean, empty sink, more water (cold) from a faucet, or olive oil cooking spray.

Measure 2 quarts (or 8 cups) water. Using the liquid measuring cup, measure two quarts of water (which equals 8 cups).

Put water into pot. Put the water from the measuring cup into the pot.

Put pot on to stove. Put the pot on to a stove burner.

Turn on stove to medium. Turn on the stove burner to a medium heat.

Boil water. Heat the water until it reaches a boil.

Careful! Put rotini into pot. Using your one hand, hold the handle of the pot so that it’s steady and safe. Using your other hand, and being very careful, add the rotini, in small bunches, to the pot of boiling water until all of the rotini you are cooking is in the pot. It’s important to add the rotini as carefully as possible to avoid any splashing. The rotini will cool off the water and it may take a minute or two for the water to reach a boil again.

Boil again – 10 minutes. Careful! Stir. Heat the water until it reaches a boil and let it boil for ten minutes. Every three to four minutes, use the long handled spoon to carefully stir the rotini in the pot.

Turn off stove. Turn off the stove burner.

______10. Careful! Drain with strainer. Drain the boiling water from the rotini by using the strainer, which should be placed in the sink.

______11. Decision. Spray cold water. Using the spray nozzle in your sink, quickly (a very short blast) spray cold water on to the rotini in the strainer.
