SUNDAY MARCH 4TH 2018 BE STILL AND KNOW– WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL BY PS. SONIA THOMAS COME THIRSTY “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37-38 Have you ever been so thirsty that you feel weak and desperate? A parched dehydration that demands attention. We humans need water to live. Water is the symbol of life. Nothing living can exist without it. You need water like you need air. Just as you need physical water, you need spiritual water. Our soul gets thirsty and looks for satisfaction. Where do you find the water of the soul? Only Jesus has it. Rivers of living water. He not only has the water but He is the Spring , the never ending, never drying well and source of life itself. His water quenches the driest desperate thirst, that this world can never reach. He offers this water to any one. No one will be rejected. He has enough for us all. One October in Jesus’ day, there was an annual re-enactment of the miracle of Moses striking the rock in the wilderness and water flowing out. (Ex 17:5-6). Thousands of people filled the streets in tribute to the desert stream water ritual. Each morning a Priest would fill a golden pitcher with water from the Gihon Spring and carry it along the lined path of people to the temple. Trumpets would announce him, the Priest encircled the altar, once a day for seven days. On the last day , he went around seven times dousing the altar with seven vessels of water. They recited Is 12:3 “Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” While this was happening John 7:37-38 says “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” The crowd would have been shocked, surprised , the tourists, kids, teens, men and women young old confronted by this cry from Christ! It was intense. He stood and shouted. He cried out in desperation because His time was short and because He could see the depths of thirst in the souls and hearts of men. Today, by His Holy Spirit He cries out to you, “If you thirst….come to Me.” Only Jesus can give you the purest water to wash, cleanse and satisfy. Just one drop will remove decades of dehydration. One drop will quench years of neglect, regret and pain. He who truly comes to Him and believes will receive a never ending supply that can flow out and bring life to the desperately dehydrated around us everywhere!© Ps.
