The Order of Daedalians, the National Fraternity of Military Pilots, was organized on 26 March 1934 by a group of World War I commissioned Army pilots to perpetuate the spirit of patriotism, love of country and ideals of self-sacrifice which place service to nation above personal safety or position. Membership is open to pilots (commissioned, warrant officers, USAAF flight officers, and WASPs) of all US armed services and who can be on active duty, retired or have left the service, under honorable conditions, prior to retirement. Help bring a member in the Order, now!

May 19, 2016 Luncheon

March 26, 2015 Founders Day!

Steve Hinton, a tall, young, unassuming yet very competitive race pilot shared his air racing career highlights with our members at the recent Founder’s Day luncheon get together. Steve won the Reno Championship Air Race, unlimited category, at 22 years of age, Blying a clipped wing; radically streamlined F 51-D. Steve is looking forward to Flight Seven’s visit with him in early June at the Planes of Fame Air Museum.

WOW, another great Founder’s Day gathering of members and guests at the Port’s O Call restaurant in San Pedro. A great day on the waterfront, at a relatively easy to reach destination, in a bright, comfortable environment, coupled with an attentive supportive staff, serving an excellent luncheon fare made for a very enjoyable event. The event turned out so well, we will have to consider a return to The Port’s O Call as a candidate for our 2017 Founder’s Day gathering. Before moving on to other matters, I should explain the reason that some members did not obtain the entrée of choice. While each guest was provided a coupon upon arrival indicating their entrée choice, the colors chosen to denote the entrée selections (blue chicken/pink salmon) were not optimum. Unfortunately, many member’s rafBle tickets (pink) placed on the table were misinterpreted by the serving staff and the salmon was served to most. Consequently, some salmon lovers were denied their entrée of choice because that entrée ran out. Fortunately, both entrée’s were excellent. So apologies to those that were denied their entrée of choice and my profound appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of those accepting a substitute entrée. Moving on and based on our March Intercom survey of candidate Bield trip venues, the responses favored Chino Air Museum/ Planes of Fame, the Reagan Library and the USS Midway in that order. Fortunately, our Founder’s Day luncheon speaker, Mr. Steve Hinton Jr., graciously volunteered to facilitate a member visit to the Chino facility and consequently a Chino visit in early June is in planning. Members interested in joining us in a visit to Chino should indicate their participation on the accompanying reservation sign-up form. For those not attending the Founder’s day event, Steve Hinton Jr., was our speaker and is the President of Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino. Steve’s impressive discussion of competing and wining an unlimited Reno air race in 2009 is contained elsewhere in your Intercom. In Mid April our Deadalian Foundation National Commander, Lt General Doug Owens retired, issued a summery report: “Advocating Airpower and a Problem of Relevance and Our Future.” While America’s air power is considered to be strong, we members fully recognize, this capability is in “geriatric” decline and in need of serious rejuvenation. Similarly, our organization membership has declined over time as well and it too is in need of rejuvenation. General Owens has recognized the seriousness of membership decline and has proposed a number of immediate steps for strengthening membership and request the membership’s assistance/comments relative to his proposed options. I would be happy to provide Flight Seven membership copies of General Owen’s report and request those member desiring a copy of the report send me ([email protected]) your email address and I will provide responder’s a copy of the report. Memorial Day, a day of reBlection, respect and honor for those military members that have died in defense and support of our Nation’s interests is on this coming 30th of May. Please show or Blag, under which and for which we dedicated our lives: Nation Before Self.
