HUMAN RESOURCES ANALYST #CompensationResearchAnalyst #WageAnalyst #LabourRelationsAnalyst You’re all about people. As a Human Resources (HR) Analyst, you collect, analyse and manage the data relating to your company’s people. HR has evolved from an administrative function to a strategic one that helps drive the business bottom line. This is because your analysis and information empowers managers and decision makers to create smart, adaptable workforce strategies that keep your company moving forward.

HOW DO I GET HERE? A post-secondary degree is generally required by employers. • Some employers may require human resources professionals to hold a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

What does this career look like? An HR Analyst provides data that factors into an employer’s decisions and policies that in turn impact employees. Much of your day takes place in front of a computer swimming through pools of the company’s “people data”. Employee demographics, compensation, salary range movement, position openings, retiring positions and more. You work with other HR experts, business advisors and managers to help them make sense of it all. Your gift when you see data is your ability to see a story. And you know how to tell it, using presentations, graphs, charts and dashboards. Your analysis informs decisions on everything from recruitment strategies to compensation programs and succession planning.

HEALTH & SAFETY TRAINING Health and Safety courses may be relevant depending on site visits, potentially including standard and emergency first aid and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS).

What would I do? You analyze topics as diverse as the people they impact. One moment you might run reports on all employees who are set to retire in the next five years. This informs succession planning. Another moment you might be asked to find out how many of your power engineers have 1st or 2nd class tickets. You’re adding data to the HR databases, and pulling reports that answer planning and forecasting questions. Specific activities may include:

4 Preparing or maintaining employment records related to events such as hiring, termination, leaves, transfers and promotions, with the use of human resources management system software 4 Assisting with the maintenance of internal database files and developing custom reports to meet the requirements of HR management and staff 4 Analyzing compensation data and studying labour market trends to use in decision making of future compensation 4 Preparing routine and non-routine HR metrics reporting
