MATCH PREVIEW: Otterbein and Capital square off for rights to the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament title, something the Cardinals have not clinched since 2002 while the Crusaders last won the tournament in 2009. The Cards in search of their sixth championship in league tournment play, while the Crusaders are looking to notch their second in program history. The two teams last met on Sept. 30 in Bexley as Otterbein escaped with a 1-0 victory inside Bernlohr Stadium, thanks to junior Zach Lewis’ goal in the 20th mintue off a corner kick from classmate Toby Varland. Since then the Cards have added to their winning ways, now at a program-best 14-straight victories. The Cardinals enter tonight as the top defense in the conference with a stellar goals-against average mark (0.72), having held their opponents to one or fewer goals in the last 14 matches. Offensively, the Cards also sit atop the OAC with 49 goals this fall, led by sophomore Kennedy Mensah’s mark of 10 scores. Otterbein advanced to the conference tournement title game following a come-from-behind 2-1 win over fifthseeded Marietta this past Thursday night. The Pioneers led for over 65 minutes before senior Gavin Koerner headed in the game-tying goal, while fellow senior Nate Norris sent in the game-winner less than two minutes into overtime. The Cards are now a perfect 10-0 at home this season, having only allowed five goals all year inside Memorial Stadium. The Crusaders come into play following a wild 1-1 draw after 110 minutes of action at second-seeded John Carroll this past Thursday night, a game which saw Capital advance to the tournament finals following a 4-2 triumph in penalty kicks. Capital is currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak, and features one of the top goal-scorers in the OAC in Chewy Gordon who has 11 goals on the year. Goalkeeper Justin Niswonger has also been stellar for the Crusaders, ranking in the top-five in the league in saves (65) and save percentage (.765), while the team is currently sixth in the league in goals-against average (1.08). Capital is 6-3-1 in road matches this fall.
