Providence held a joint Planning/Council/Staff workshop (following the regular Planning meeting) on 10 May. The purpose of the joint workshop was to discuss current and future infrastructure needs. Planning members, Council members, staff members, and citizens attended the meeting. Planning met prior to the joint workshop and approved the final plat for Providence Meadows Subdivision, a 16-lot subdivision located at approximately 500 West 500 South. In addition, Consultants for the general plan outlined the steps for the general plan update. Planning also met on 24 May and had a discussion on possible changes to Providence City Code Title 10 Zoning Regulations Chapter 4 Establishment of Districts Section 4 Mixed Use District. This discussion will be continued at future meetings. In addition to the joint workshop with Planning, Council met twice in May. On 9 May there was a public hearing to provide an opportunity for anyone interested to comment on adjustments to the 2017 Budgets for the General Fund. Following the public hearing Council approved a resolution making adjustments for the General Fund. The Council then approved a resolution amending the Providence City Bylaws Article 6.2 Opening and changing "city administrator" to "administrative services director" in Article 3. Council then approved the Development and Public Improvement Installation Agreement for the Booth Subdivision, a two lot residential subdivision located at approximately 685 South 300 East. The Council then considered the Ordinance for a rezone from Single-Family Traditional to Mixed Use for a 2.03 acre parcel located at 196 West 100 North. Planning had recommended this not be rezoned and in a tie vote by the Council, your Mayor cast the final vote denying this rezone. Our present city attorney, Craig Call, will be retiring at the end of June and the Council decided to advertise the position. The last discussion item was proposed tentative budgets for all funds for Fiscal Year 2018 which will be continued. Council's last meeting was on 23 May. At that meeting Council approved the Development and Public Improvement Installation Agreement for the Canyon Creek Subdivision, a three-lot subdivision located at approximately 815 East Canyon Road, and also for the Providence Meadows Subdivision, a 16-lot subdivision located at approximately 500 West 500 South. Council then awarded the bid for the Providence City 100 North & Main Street ADA Improvements to Staker Parson Company. There was then further discussion on the tentative budgets for all funds for Fiscal Year 2018 and there will be a public hearing scheduled in June. We held our open house to tour the new city office building on 25 May and had an excellent turn out. Representatives from our Miss Providence Princess Royalty acted as hostesses and they as the entire staff are to be complimented on the outstanding job they did in preparation. Staff members were present as tour guides as well as explaining the variety of services the city offers. Our Consultants for the new general plan were present in the Council Chambers with a detailed visual presentation and opportunities for citizens to express their views. It was a fun and very neighbor friendly evening. Mayor Calderwood

Water meters are now being read, please make sure to keep the entire lid uncovered and available for access. For customers with underground sprinkling systems. Current state plumbing code requires a backflow preventer on all underground sprinkling systems. The backflow preventer is a device that prevents impurities or contaminants from being drawn into the drinking water system. Many sprinkling systems already have the proper backflow preventer installed and need only be tested annually. Others may not meet state and local regulations and may need to be replaced with the proper backflow preventer. The regulations also require a state certified backflow technician test the backflow preventer annually. For a list of local technicians, please contact the Public Works department at 435-7530313. Thank you for helping to keep our drinking water system clean and safe.
