Planning held two meetings this month. On 12 July they considered two action items. The final plat for Providence Heights Subdivision Phase 1, a 13-lot phase of a residential subdivision, located at approximately 900 South 400 East was continued. The second action item was the final plat for Providence Estates Subdivision, a 26-lot residential subdivision, located at approximately 1180 South 400 East was approved with conditions. They then entered into a study item on zoning districts as described in Providence City Code Title 10 Zoning Regulations, Chapter 4 Establishment of Districts, and uses within the districts, as described in Providence City Code Title 10 Zoning Regulations, Chapter 6 Use Regulations; focusing on multi-family and mixed use. This study item will be continued. Planning held a second meeting on 26 July. It concerned one study item which the Commission discussed amending the Transportation Corridors Element Revised March 25, 2015 of the General Plan and Master Plan Sheet No. 1 Transportation Corridor Plan Revised April 15, 2015 by removing the future traffic corridor designation from 600 East from 1000 South to Hillsborough Drive. A public hearing will be held on this subject on 9 August. Council also held two meetings in July. On 18 July they held a public hearing making adjustments to the 2018 Budget for General Fund. Following the public hearing the Council approved the Budget adjustments. The second Resolution was selecting an individual to serve as an alternate member to the Planning Commission. Robert Perry was selected by an unanimous vote. The third Resolution was consideration for a Development and Public Improvement Installation Agreement for the Providence Heights Subdivision Phase 1, a 13-lot phase of a residential subdivision, located at approximately 900 South 400 East which was continued. The fourth Resolution was for the approval of the Development and Public Improvement Installation Agreement for the Providence Estates Subdivision, a 26-lot residential subdivision, located at approximately 1180 South 400 East which was approved. The fifth Resolution was a request for a special permit for relief from the noise level designated in Providence City Code Title 4 Chapter 9 Noise, requested by Eva M. Crookston, Office Manager ACI Construction LLC, for the Little Baldy Subdivision located at approximately 80 North. Council approved this allowing noise to begin at 5 am for 10 business days (Monday-Friday); they can begin on July 20, 2017. There will be no noise on the job site before 5 am. Council then considered Statements of Qualification submitted in response to the City's Request for Qualifications for City Attorney Services. They selected three proposals for interviews in August. The last item for discussion was for future impact fees and we will hold a joint workshop on this item in August. Council's second meeting was a Special Meeting requested by Council members for the election of a new mayor pro tempore. By a majority vote they removed Kirk Allen and elected John Drew as the new mayor pro tempore. This position acts in the mayor’s absence. The second item was a Resolution considering for adoption amending the Providence City Bylaws by adding 5.9 Agenda Items which states any two Council members can request that an item will be added to an upcoming Council meeting agenda as long as adequate notice is given to the City Recorder in accordance with State Code. This was approved by the majority of the Council. Prior to this approval the Mayor had the authority to set the agenda with the Council having the authority to call a Special Meeting if a disagreement arose. The city did a very good job, along with extraordinary effort by citizens in keeping the waterways clear and consequently we had no flooding conditions due to the high water coming out of the canyon. We request that everybody keep alert and continue their diligence. In addition, Cache County School District School starts on 23 August so be aware of the increased activity. Thank You, Mayor Calderwood
Message from Public Works: Thank you for your patience during our road maintenance and construction projects. We will be painting school crossings and cross walks. Please use caution and follow the cones while we work to provide safe crossings for pedestrians. Providence City is very saddened by the careless acts of someone who damaged the surface of one of the newly constructed pickleball courts. If you have information that will help us find the responsible party, please contact the City Office.
It’s Back to School Time! Cache County School District goes back to school on August 23, 2017. Please watch for children walking to and from school and waiting at the bus stops. Please help our crossing guards keep our children safe. Please drive with caution in school crossing areas.
Let’s play Flag Football! Registration July 17—Aug 18. Youth in grades 1—7. Registration Fee: $50 The Providence Recreation Flag Football program is designed to give youth an opportunity to strengthen both physical and social skills in a noncompetitive atmosphere. Teamwork and sportsmanship are encouraged and expected from players, parents, and coaches. Any misconduct should be reported to the Recreation Department and will be addressed accordingly. The game of flag football is a version of American Football where the basic rules of the game are similar to those of the mainstream game but instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag or flag belt from the ball carrier ("deflagging") to end a down. Game duration will be an hour .
