In November, Planning did not hold a meeting and Council held one meeting. In addition, December presently has only one meeting scheduled for Council. Therefore, those activities will be combined in a future newsletter. For this one I will take the opportunity to give you an overview of some of the progress the city has made. In looking back over my four years as Mayor, I thank the Staff, Council, Planning, Historical, and all the citizens that are truly responsible for the achievements we have realized. Concerning Water improvements, the Edgehill water line was upgraded, the Baur Avenue water project is in full swing, and we have completed the Highway 165 crossing of water and sewer for prospective commercial development on the west side of the highway. Concerning commercial development (sales tax producing for the city), we now have Tractor Supply and have completed negotiations for Black Bear Restaurant, Panda Express, Quick Quack Car Wash, and Big O Tire. Parks....we improved the restrooms at Uptown Park (by the elementary school), put new playground equipment at Hampshire Park, approved and started the process for new parks at 400 South and Main and also at 800 South and 4th East. Also for the first time in our history, we are now watering both Hampshire and Braegger Park with irrigation water saving thousands of gallons of culinary water for household use. It should also be noted that we were able to negotiate with Spring Creek Water Company and are now utilizing our shares as municipal use (converted from irrigation); taking water from Broad Hollow Spring in Providence Canyon during the months of April and October, which provides nearly all our water needs for those two months saving the city thousands of dollars. RAPZ awards from the County paid for the playground equipment at Hampshire Park, the Pickle Ball Courts at Alma Leonhardt Park and the softball diamond at the Uptown Park. In addition, we have upgraded the lights at the tennis courts and at the batting cages at Zollinger Park as well as lights at the third baseball diamond at Zollinger. Streets...we completed Gateway Drive, with a new roundabout at 100 South, utilizing nearly a million dollars won in a competitive grant from the County; Fuhriman Drive complete build out, 400 South for three blocks from 1st East to 200 West, completed the improvements on 300 East, rebuilt the Canyon Road intersection at 400 East, completed the intersection at 100 North and Main Street, and combined with the County and City of Logan to improve and complete 300 South. In addition to regular repairs and crack sealing, we resurfaced scores of streets within the city. We built the needed carport for Public Works, are in the process of adding to our Salt Shed, and approved and spent over $400,000 on needed equipment for Public Works. We increased our camera capability for potential leaks in our sewer system; and have started our GIS (geographic information system) program. Our only present debt, $500,000 on our water bond, has been reduced by over $200,000 due to impact fees collected over the last four years from building permits. In addition, new impact fees are in the process of being updated as well as our General Plan.

We bought and paid cash for a new city building consisting of 8,000 square feet, doubling our space to be able to serve the public now with more than adequate parking. The old building was sold in a timely manner and the money was banked. With all of this, we have been able to maintain an overall combined bank balance of $9,000,000 in reserve. Our city is financially sound. Dianne, Rusty, and I wish you all the very best for the Holiday Season. Mayor Calderwood
Message from Public Works: The Public Works Department would like to wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday season. With winter and colder temperatures approaching we also have a few reminders for you. Please drive with caution when in the vicinity of a snowplow and remain at least 150 feet behind them. After your garbage and recycling cans have been emptied, please remove them as soon as possible to limit possible obstructions for the plows. In an effort to keep our streets as safe as possible during the winter months, please remember that it is a violation of City ordinance to remove snow from your private property and place it in the street. This can create a hazard for you as citizens along with City employees as they are working in the plows to keep the streets clear of snow. To prevent outside taps from freezing, you may need to leave a small amount of water running. We would also recommend that you locate your water meter and make sure that the lid is tightly secured. This will help with the possibility of freezing pipes. We have finished our leaf bag pickup for the year.
WINTER PARKING HOURS: (complete code 6-2-8 available online www.providencecity.com) Night Parking: As of December 1, parking in the city right-of-way is prohibited between the hours of twelve o’clock (12:00) midnight and six o’clock (6:00) A.M. the next day, for a period of time longer than three (3) minutes when loading or unloading passengers. This subsection shall not apply to doctors on house calls, emergency vehicles, or vehicles used in the repair of utilities. The City will not be liable for any damage occurring to any vehicle or equipment parked on any street or right of way during street and right of way maintenance. Parking citations will be issued for violation of this ordinance. Overnight parking citation fee is $25. The fee is dropped to $20 if paid within the first five days.
