PE This half term will be focussed upon ball games, skills and team building. Some pupils will also be completing the Rookie Lifeguard course on Mondays.

Science This term the group will focus on the human body. Pupils will study the major organs in the body and will look in detail at the digestive system. Pupils will focus on what is needed to stay healthy and will look at the effects of healthy diet and exercise on the body. Pupils will complete a number of practical experiments to compliment their work.

Our Coffee afternoon will be Thursday 21st September at 2pm, a letter will be sent out regarding this nearer the time.

Computing In computing pupils will be working with spreadsheets to develop our skills. This will involve saving and retrieving data, entering & editing textual and numerical data. They will also be using simple formula and creating simple charts.

Home to school contact and communication Contact can be made through Home School Diaries or I can be contacted through the school phone number or by email which is often the fastest option. Phone calls will not be put through to staff during lesson time but messages will be passed on and staff will call you back at the earliest convenience. Emails will be answered with 2 working days unless it is an emergency. Please email me on [email protected] I will then pass on information to the relevant staff.

Food technology This term pupils will focus on the basic methods of cake making. Pupils will be preparing and making cakes using five different cooking methods, and will focus upon hygiene and health and safety, when working in the kitchen. To support this students could join in with meal preparation or shopping at home. K

Practical arrangements PE is on a Tuesday afternoon– weather appropriate PE kit and shower kit are needed each week. Those completing the Rookie lifeguard course will complete this every Monday and will need their swimming kit, a separate letter will be sent out about this.

Thursday

Home learning opportunities Homework will be given on a weekly basis and the quantity will depend upon the level that pupils are working at. Revision work will also be completed during exam periods. Dates of these will be provided in advance.

Humanities This term our topic for humanities is famous people and we will be introducing the students to the life of Mahatma Gandhi. The students will learn about his morals and his beliefs, including the concept of no harm and vegetarianism, as well as the religious aspects to his journey.

This Autumn term in Employability we will be investigating and developing the personal skills and qualities that are important when interacting with others and carrying out tasks. There will be a focus on communication and organisational skills as well as building confidence and learning to work as a team.

Art Pupils are beginning to research houses and will design and make their own building using cardboard and various other materials.

PHSE This Autumn term in PSHE we are investigating and learning about Using Technology in the Home and Community. Throughout the term we will be looking at how different technologies are used, thinking about their purposes, their advantages and how we can use different technologies safely.

English The focus in English this term will be grammar and punctuation. The students will work on adding depth to their writing, improving their punctuation and gaining a better understanding of how to write sentences. Pupils will also be completing THRASS and reading sessions to support their learning.

Maths This term we will be working on the use of time, working with digital and analogue time. We will also be working with real life problems, using timetables and real life time resources. There will be a focus upon the use of reasoning and problem solving, with pupils completing functional maths projects to generalise their skills. Pupils will complete work in small groups and will work on speaking and listening skills as well as having a focus on vocabulary. Pupils will also be working with the Numeracy Ninja’s program of mental maths work to support their learning and generalisation of skills.
