Minor Football Championship

Senior Football League

Valley Rovers Minor footballers played Bantry in the Premier 2 football championship in Kilmichael today Sunday March 29th at 3 pm. They say goals win games and this was the case today with Bantry getting 2 in each half to finish the winners on a score line of Bantry 4 goals and 9 points to Valley Rovers 12 points. Bantry won the toss and played with the aid of a very strong wind in the first half. Bantry opened the scoring with a point from a free in the 2nd minute followed with a point from play in the 5th minute. Valleys then started to get on the ball and got the next 3 scores with William Hurley kicking a point in the 9th minute followed by a point each from Pa Hurley and Adam Settini in the 10th and 15th minute both from play. For the next 14 minutes Bantry dominated and kicked 3 points 2 from frees and 1 from play. They followed this up with 2 goals in the 21st and 29th minute to give them a 7 point lead coming up to half time. Just before the break Pa Hurley kicked 2 points from play to leave us trailing Bantry by 5 points at the break. After the break and with the aid of the wind we got some good possession and kicked 3 points 1 from Chris O Leary and 2 from Pa Hurley to leave just 2 points between the teams with 12 minutes of the 2nd half gone. Over the next 12 minutes Bantry kicked 3 points all from close range frees which shows the pressure our defence were under. Valleys did reply with 2 points from play kicked by Pa Hurley and Fergal Lyons. Bantry finished the stronger team kicking 2 goals and a point to a single point for Valley’s kicked by Bill Casey. This loss means we go into the losers round in mid July with the more difficult route to follow to get to the ¼ final. Panel for todays game Cian O Donovan, Bill Casey, Andrew O Callaghan, Scott Deane, Fergal Lyons, Rory O Sullivan, Stephe alleys then started to get on the ball and got the next 3 scores with William Hurley kicking a point in the 9th minute followed by a point each from Pa Hurley and Adam Settini in the 10th and 15th minute both from play. n Lordan, William Hurley, Chris O Leary, Michael Crowley , Sean O Regan , Gary Deane, Pa Hurley, Adam Settini, Aaron Lyons, Colm Butler, Cathal Dart O Flynn, Eoin Burke ,Dan Sweetnam, Shane O Leary, James Callanan, Robert Sean Sweetnam, Aidan Sheehan , AaronMurphy, Ben Murphy and Colm Barry.

An excellent team performance in very windy conditions in Brinny, Valley Rovers senior footballers defeated near neighbours Newcestown 0-10 to 0-5. In a low scoring first half, the home side opened their account inside the first five minutes with John Cottrell kicking the first of his 3 frees. The remaining Rovers score came from the boot of Jack Murphy in the 26th minute. The visitors kicked 2 from play and 1 free to trail the home side 0-4 to 0-3 at half time. The visitors drew level with a point from play in the 32nd minute but from then on the home side took control of this game. Great defensive play and excellent work rate from the forwards saw the Rovers kick 6 points from play with the visitors only other score coming from a free. Fiachra Lynch and John Cottrell had a point each inside the first 10 minutes of the second half. Wing back Darragh Crowley got on the score sheet with a fine point to put 2 between the teams on 45 minutes. With the midfield pairing controlling the game and the forwards combining well Cottrell kicked his fifth point of the game from a Jack Murphy pass. Valley rovers U12 footballers entertained Sliabh Rua in a top of the table clash in a very windy Brinny pitch on Saturday. Playing against the wind in the first half valleys were under pressure from the throw in. Sliabh Rua raced into 1-1 lead after five mins. Valleys eventually came to grips with the elements and stormed back into the match scoring 2-3 without reply. Leading 2-4 to 1-2 at half time the Valleys upped the tempo in the second half. Playing some great football the Valley created chance after chance but were unable to convert them. The game was always in the balance with the Valleys defence playing some great football, Valleys eventually winning on a score line of 3-4 to 2-3.

U10 Hurling Our u10 hurlers travelled to Belgooly to take on near neighbours Sliabh Rua in their first hurling match of the year. The conditions weren't ideal for hurling with some very strong winds but this didn't deter both teams from serving up an entertaining hours hurling. Our lads performed very well and some of the training they have done at the ball wall has helped improve their striking from the hand. Scores were hard to come by in the conditions but Valleys did score some excellent points

Various rates available depending on circumstances. Reminder: only paid up full members are allowed to vote at AGM or special General Meetings, receive tickets for Inter County matches, be a selector, player or member of the Executive.
