U21 B Hurling Championship

Taking on the Senior County champions from Ballincollig in Kilmurry Saturday night last, Valley Rovers started brightly going into a 2 point lead after 6 minutes but missed a couple of chances to extend the lead before Ballincollig gradually wore Valleys down and moved to a 5 point lead at the short whistle leading 0 -7 to 0 -2. Valleys made a couple of changes at half time and again started well but every time they scored Ballincollig replied and the Rovers could not get closer than 4 points at any stage after that. Valleys made further changes which gave a little bit of a lift but Ballincollig were just that bit better with the ball and were deserving winner by 0-13 to 0 -8. The Rovers battled bravely to the end but Ballincollig proved just too strong on the night.

The second half followed the pattern of the first with little between the teams but O’Donovan Rossa took whatever chances that were coming their way and they scored another goal and a point half way through the half to pull six points clear 0-3 to 2-3.

Valley Rovers 12A 2-5 O’Donovan Rossa 2-5 Valley Rovers Ladies U12A fought back superbly to draw with O’Donovan Rossa in the West Cork 12A Final played in Clonakilty on Sunday. It what was an exciting game throughout, Valleys showed tremendous battling qualities to come back from being six points behind at one stage in the second half to emerge with honours even and force a replay. The first half was evenly matched with little between both teams, and both sides swopped a couple of scores with Valleys points coming from Orla O’Sullivan and Caoimhe McCarthy. O’Donovan Rossa got the first goal of the game following a long ball which caused confusion in the Valleys defence but another point from Orla O’Sullivan left the score 0-3 to 1-2 at half time.

However, as has been the case all season, the girls never let their heads go down and stormed back into the game with goals from Ellie O’Sullivan and Caoimhe McCarthy to level the scores. Once again O’Donovan Rossa pushed ahead with two more points but Valleys once again came back with points from Ellen Murphy and a free from Orla O’Sullivan tied the game up and brought the game to a replay. examples of triple hand passing up along the side line, hooking, great free taking from a few players. Coaches Helena Lynch and Leo Flynn, accompanied by Eamon Reardon and Sheila Muckian the under 14s coaches were amazed but not surprised at the end. The team was also accompanied by Garry Lynch who was present for the match and helped with the warm ups and team talk. The scoring was tight, with a few decisions in the Valleys forward line going against them in the first half, prevented scoring chances. In the second half there were a few miss chances with close wides from free taking. The County board appointed referee commented on the great skill that under 12 girls are playing in today’s Camogie world, and this match was no exception. U12s Camogie U12s Camogie played their County Quarter final last Thursday at home in Brinny, where they played Newcestown to earn them a place in the County Semi final. These two teams have been playing each other since they were under 9s in league and Challenge matches. Both teams understood what was at stake as a result of this match, and they played with heart and skill, both evenly matched right through the game. Most skills practiced at training were used with attention and accuracy. There were numerous shots on goal targets saved by the Valleys goal keeper. The speed of the game was breath taking, matched with the sounds from the Spectator stand. There were
