2016-17 SEASON PREVIEW The Neumann University men’s ice hockey team will look to improve upon a season that saw the team reach the ECAC West semifinals. The Knights finished the season with an impressive record of 15-9-3, but fell to Hobart College in the playoffs. This season head coach Matt Tendler will be relying on a bevy of upperclassmen to help lead the team back to a conference championship and the NCAA tournament. Offensively, the Knights return several of their top scorers from last season. Senior Shayne Morrissey is back after finishing second on the team with 26 points (8 goals, 18 assists) last season. In addition to Morrissey the Knights return seniors Jory Mullen (7 goals, 13 assists) and Shane Topf (7 goals, 11 assists) who finished third and fourth on the team in scoring last season. Senior Zac Lazarro (5 goals, 2 assists) will also be back for the Knights and should contribute on both ends of the ice as one of the best two-way players on the team. On the back end, the Knights bring back defenseman Jake Davidson. The junior blue-liner was honorable mention All-ECAC West last season, finishing the year with two goals and 12 assists. Neumann will also return goalie Matt Gibney in net. The junior net-minder finished last season with a record of 6-3 with a 0.912 save percentage and 2.66 goals against average. Neumann opens play the weekend of October 28th-29th as they travel to Daniel Webster College and Salve Regina University.
