NSIC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: St. Cloud State’s Adam Kershaw (Sr., Foley, Minn.) helped the Huskies to the team title at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational. Kershaw won the hammer with a school record throw of 181-02 breaking the mark of 177-10 held by Eric Gunderson since 2002. He also won the discus closing in on the school record with his throw of 176’11” (the record is 180-01) and met an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. He also finished eighth in the shot put with a throw of 47-09.25. NSIC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Augustana’s Diego Oquendo (Sr., Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville HS) won the 110meter hurdles with a time of 14.52 second--a personal best for the senior--at Saturday’s Northwestern (Iowa) Invitational. He provisionally qualified in the event. NSIC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Winona State’s Mary Theisen (So, from Eau Claire, WI) had a career weekend at the Miami Invitational at Miami University in Oxford, OH. In all, Mary walked away with two automatic qualifying marks and one provisional mark for the NCAA Championships in May. Mary won the Discus with a meet record, school record, NCAA automatic throw of 164’ 10” (50.25m), took 3rd in the Shot Put with a school record, NCAA automatic throw of 49’ 5” (15.06m), and took 15th in an impressive Hammer Throw field with a provisional throw of 163’ 10” (49.95m). NSIC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: U-Mary’s Kristen Stewart (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica) set a stadium, meet and school record in the 200 meter dash when she blazed the half lap in a time of 24.21 at 2011 Marauders Open held at the Bismarck Community Bowl. The senior All-American also anchored the winning 4x100 meter relay team in a national provisional qualifying time of 46.98.
NSIC Team Notes AUGUSTANA Men Track: Diego Oquendo (Sr., Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville HS) won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.52 second--a personal best for the senior--at Saturday’s Northwestern (Iowa) Invitational. He provisionally qualified in the event. Women Track: Anne Parsley (Fr., Flandreau, S.D./Flandreau HS) earned the women’s 400meter hurdles title at last Saturday’s Northwestern (Iowa) Invitational, checking in at 1:04.85. It was the true freshman’s second time running in the event. Women Field: Noel Bentele (Sr., Brandon, S.D./Brandon Valley HS) set a school and meet record in the hammer throw with a toss of 175 feet, 10 inches at the Northwestern (Iowa) Invitational Saturday in Orange, City, Iowa. She broke her own school record of 171 feet, 10 inches and the old meet record held by Michelle Schuch of South Dakota State, who threw 174 feet, 4 inches in 2009. Bentele, who has the fifth best hammer throw toss in the country this season, also placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 9 inches. NSIC Team Notes Continued BEMIDJI STATE The Bemidji State University outdoor track and field teams competed in the Falcon Multi and Falcon Invitational at Ramer Field in River Falls, Wis. April 8-9. The BSU men placed eighth in the team standings, while the women’s team finished 13th. Next, the Beavers hit the road as they head to St. Paul, Minn. to take part in the Holst Invitational April 16. Women Track: Kristi Buerkle (Sr., Stacy, Minn.) scored a pair of victories in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash and led the BSU 4x400-meter team to second place. Buerkle provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.69 before taking the 200-meter title with a time of 24.81. The senior scored 28 of BSU’s 31 points in the meet. Women Field: In her first attempt at multi-event competition, Taylor Sautbine (So., Tamarack, Minn.) finished fifth in the heptathlon with 3,794 points. Sautbine placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.38) and added a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 200-meter dash (27.80) and long jump (16-08.00). Men Field: Tandy Juell (So., Redwood Falls, Minn.) won the Falcon Invite multi decathlon and provisionally qualified with the seventh-best score (6,405) in the country this outdoor season. Juell’s score was a personal best and ranks first in the conference this outdoor season. The sophomore posted back-to-back wins in the pole vault (14-08.25) and javelin (170-09) as well as a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (11.78) and the discus (120-02). Concordia-St. PauL The Golden Bears competed in the Decorah Relays this past weekend. Andy Chaussee and sophomore Nate Thienes on Saturday as both were crowned Champions at the Norse Relays. Thienes took first place in the discuss throw with a launch of 41.05m and Chaussee took home his in the pole vault with a height of 3.95m. All together in the meet CU had eight top three finishes. This Saturday the Golden Bears will host the second annual Holst Invite at Seafoam Stadium. Men Field: Nate Thienes (Throws 6-3 230 So. Lake Elmo, Minn. Mahtomedi HS) took first place in the Discuss throw with a launch of 41.05m, a personal best. He also took second in the Javelin with a throw of 52.52m, a personal best. He won the shot put by almost two meters. He just missed taking first place in the javelin by less than two feet. MINNESOTA DULUTH On the men’s side of things, UMD finished in 3rd place out of 18 teams at the Falcon Invite, which was hosted by UW-River Falls. The distance crew scored a majority of the points in the meet with the following performances, with the exception of Jason Beutz (SR), who just missed a provisional national qualifying mark on his final attempt in the pole vault at 15-07.00. Beutz did finish in a tie for 2nd place with his clearance of 15-01.00. Men Field: Jason Beutz, SR, Foley, MN for his 2nd place performance in the pole vault, clearing 15-01. Men Track: Erik Escher, SR, Watertown ,MN for his second place finish in the 10000 meters with a time of 32:49.74 Women Track: Morgan Place ran the 10,000 meter run this past weekend at River Falls( Falcon Invite) with a time of 35:29.60, which puts her 6th in the country in the event. Women Field: Elizabeth Crane had a great throw in the shot put at the Falcon Invite this past weekend. She provisionally qualified with a throw of 13.57M and is sitting 18th in the country with this mark. Northern State Men Track: Junior Brock Rose finished fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 10:23.32. Men Field: Senior Calvin McGruder led the men’s team by winning the long jump with a leap of 23’05.50. McGruder is currently tied for the 13 spot with two others on the national qualifying list with a jump of 24’0.25”. Women Field: Junior Melodi Boke led the women Wolves by winning and setting a new meet record in the shot put. Boke had a season best throw of 47’00.25” improving her provisional qualifying mark by 9 inches. A new meet record was set by Melodi beating Laura Wortman from Mt. Marty, with a previous throw of 45’10”. Womens Track: Senior Kari Linneman placed third in the women’s 5K with a time of 19:34.66. University of Mary Women Track: Kristen Stewart (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica) set a stadium, meet and school record in the 200 meter dash when she blazed the half lap in a time of 24.21 at 2011 Marauders Open held at the Bismarck Community Bowl. Men Field: Tyler Zacher (Sr., Beulah, ND) won both the horizontal jumping events at the Marauder Open on Sunday, despite the cool, breezy weather. The indoor All-American went 22’ 9” in the long jump and 45’ 1 ½” in the triple jump. Men Track: Tracy Lide (So., Las Vegas, NV) won the 100 meter dash in a school record 10.57 and then came back later to place second to teammate Cory Ploof in the 200 meter dash, running a 21.68. The sophomore speedster also anchored the winning 4x100 meter relay team in a time of 45.52.

NSIC Team Notes Continued ST. CLOUD STATE The Huskies placed seventh at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational over the weekend. Roshane Boreland (Rend Lake, Ill) and Felicia Carlson (Beloit, Wis.) were individual winners for the Huskies. Boreland won the 800 meter run in 2:14.82 and is closing in on the school record last set during the 1988 track season. Carlson won the 100 meters in 12:54. Rebecca Kitzman (Jr., Verona, Wis.) had a solid weekend in the field events. Kitzman placed fourth in the discus with a personal record throw of 141-09. She had a pair of fifth place finishes in the hammer with a toss of 150-07 and the shot put with a mark of 40-09. Women Track: Roshane Boreland (Rend Lake, Ill.) won the 800 meter run in a time of 2:14.82 and is closing in on the school record last set during the 1988 track season. St. Cloud State won the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational as they were victorious in the 4x100 relay, the 200 meter dash, the discus, hammer and 10,000 meter run. Men Track: Nick Trisko (Sr., Melrose, Minn.) won the 200 meters in :21.75 and placed third in the 100 meters running the race in 11.00 flat, and helped the Huskies win the team title at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational. Men Field: Adam Kershaw (Sr., Foley, Minn.) helped the Huskies to the team title at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invitational. Kershaw won the hammer with a school record throw of 181-02 breaking the mark of 177-10 held by Eric Gunderson since 2002. Wayne State Men Track: John Kern - Senior, Cedar Bluffs, Nebr. - Kern won the 1500 meters at the Red Raider Open with a new personal best and WSC school record time of 3:56.46. He is currently ranked 2nd in the NSIC in the event. Men Field: Jeff Mills - Sophomore, Grand Island, Nebr. - Mills placed second in the pole vault at the Red Raider open with an outdoor personal best vault of 14’ 9”. He is currently tied for third in the NSIC in the event. Women Track: Erin Klein - Freshman, Omaha, Nebr. - Klein won the 400 meter dash in a personal best time of 59.35 at the Red Raider Open in Orange City, IA. She is currently ranked 5th i the NSIC in that event. She also placed 7th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 27.03. Women Field: Carly Fehringer - Freshman, Wayne, Nebr. - Fehringer took second place in the hammer throw at the Red Raider Open with a new personal best of 155’ 6” - an improvement of almost 14 feet, which currently ranks her 6th in the NSIC in that event. She also placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 39’ 8 1/2”.
