Calgary Hitmen Game Note HITMEN HEADLINES: The Calgary Hitmen (27-8-2-3) meet the Prince Alberta Raiders (21-17-2-0) tonight at the Art Hauser Centre. The Hitmen are coming off a five game home stand which wrapped up Sunday with a 10-2 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds. Ten different Hitmen scored in the victory while Alex Roach (1g, 2a) and Jake Virtanen (1g, 2a) led the way with three points each. Calgary outshot Seattle 33-28. The Hitmen went 0-6 on the powerplay while the Thunderbirds were 1-4. VS. PRINCE ALBERT: Tonight is the second of four regular season meetings between the Hitmen and Raiders. Last year, Calgary was 1-1 in Prince Albert. On February 2nd they lost 2-0 as Luke Siemens made 40 saves for his 11th career WHL shutout. The Hitmen bounced back to win 4-3 on March 6th. Elliott Peterson, who finished the game with a pair of goals, broke a 3-3 third period tie with 7:25 remaining lifting Calgary to victory. PA is in Calgary on February 11th before the Hitmen make a return trip to Saskatchewan on March 7th to wrap up the season series. CLIMB TO THE TOP: Calgary has gone 14-1-1 in their last 16 games, vaulting them into top spot in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. The Hitmen have won five in a row. BUS LIFE: Starting tonight in Prince Albert, Calgary will play five of their next six games on the road. The Hitmen have already played 25 games at Scotiabank Saddledome this season but only 15 in enemy rinks.
FAMILIAR FACES: Tonight is their first meeting since the December 28th trade that saw the Hitmen acquire 19-year-old Mike Winther from the PA Raiders in exchange for 19-year-old Calder Brooks and a second round pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. Winther has yet to make his Hitmen debut due to injury while Brooks has five points (1g, 4a) in four games as a Raider. INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Calgary is the second highest scoring team in the Eastern Conference with 152 goals, an average of 3.8 per game yet only Greg Chase is among the top 20 scorers in the WHL. At 47 points, Chase is 16th. Defensively, the Hitmen are tied with Edmonton for the fewest goals allowed in the Eastern Conference at 102, a per game average of 2.5. Goaltender Chris Driedger has the fourth best goal against overage in the WHL at 2.26 while his .928 save percentage is second.
