KS2 Christmas Performance
I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer break. The children have all settled into the new term and are producing some fantastic work and enjoying their learning in their new classes. We are continuing to use the same awards system with monster points and an array of awards to recognise the hard work of all pupils. We have a few new members of staff who have joined our team: Mr Minett, Mrs Emmerson and Mr Gray join our teaching team, Miss Ormsby is our new trainee teacher and we have Miss Dodds as our new admin apprentice and Miss Rogers as our new PE apprentice. Im sure you will all get to know them all as the year progresses. I would also like to welcome our new children and parents. We hope you have an amazing time being part of the Caedmon Community. Last year we saw our Year 6 tackle the new SATs tests and achieve some great results on behalf of the school. As always we will be equally ambitious for all classes this year. Thank you for supporting children at home with their reading, spelling and other homework and for supporting school policies. Already this term we have had a fantastic day celebrating Roald Dahl’s 100 birthday, opened up a brand new dining hall for the children and launched some new after school clubs. There are lots of other plans in place for the rest of term. Don’t forget to put the Christmas activities in your diary as we would love to see you come along for all of the children’s performances. This year we have set the following whole school priorities for teaching and learning across the school. More information will follow on what difference they will make to pupils and parents. To raise attainment in reading across the school to be in line with the raised expectations at the end of KS2 To increase the percentage of children in each year group who are Caedmon GLD (good level of development) ready To increase the percentage of children across the school that are moving closer to age expectations in core subjects To ensure that the more able children throughout the school are challenged to achieve greater depth of understanding, mastery and therefore achieve the higher standard / score at the end of KS2 To inspire children to make successful life choices to further their educational and economic potential

We understand you may still have questions: our school website contains everything you could ever need to know and is updated on a regular basis. If you use Facebook, our page gives a good indication of the exciting things happening in classes. They’re both well worth a few minutes of your time...

As you will now know, I will be absent from school for approximately the next 6 weeks. I look forward to returning and finding out how much the children have grown and progressed in my absence. Page 1

I would also like to remind parents that we have an open door policy in school. You are welcome to pop in to school to see me or Mrs Clennell with anything you wish to discuss. We will also continue to run parents forum once per term where all parents are welcome to attend and discuss any topic with us.

There will be a bar available on the night. There will also be raffle drawn on the night with lots of great prizes up for grabs. Raffle tickets will be on sale soon and will be available from the school office for purchase. To order tickets please call into the school office. Tickets will be on sale until Friday 30 September.
Roald Dahl Day On Friday the 16th September we celebrated what would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th Birthday. To mark the event, everyone was invited to dress up as a favourite character from one of his much loved books and given the chance to work with a wonderful illustrator and author, Liz Million, to produce some artwork. We all had an amazing day!
After
Last year, the children were asked in a whole school assembly which area of school they thought needed improving. The dining hall was voted the area most in need of some help! We worked out that our dining hall hadn’t been touched since the school opened when it amalgamated in 1994. Even the tables and chairs were 18 years old! The school council gathered ideas from their classmates and we discussed what they would like the space to look like. The children had lots of ideas. Everyone agreed they would like a nicer environment to eat in and socialise with friends. The main theme coming through was an American diner with booths and a black and white floor. We worked hard over the summer and hopefully designed the space the children were looking for. Please come and have a look if you get a spare moment. We will hopefully be running a ‘Caedmon Café’ soon for everyone to come to and enjoy the space.
