Hello and welcome to week 17 of your Sprouting Acres CSA share. Dang it was hot on Wednesday! We were not ready for a heat wave. Fortunately, we had the new walk in cooler space to work in for a while to get away from the weather this week. And we got rain! It’s been pretty dry over the last few weeks so we are glad for the storms. Next week’s weather looks great and back to normal. We are winding down the season but at the same time we are picking tomatoes and peppers like crazy. We should have winter squash starting next week and Brussels sprouts for the last two boxes. The zucchini is still producing so you may see that over the next two weeks and the peppers are unstoppable. The heirloom tomatoes are also going crazy this week and they are still growing up in the hoophouse. The cucumbers are pretty much done but we may have one more week. You will be getting more garlic and onions over the next few weeks for storage. Put them somewhere dark and cool and they should last for months. Well, we got good news this week about our building project. We are moving ahead with a septic system and got approval this week with possible installation in the next two weeks and the building may be going up before the end of the month! It’s getting pretty exciting at the farm and at home. Andy spend a few hours this week caulking and sealing the new cooler and building new shelves that will wrap the interior walls completely. There is so much room in there, he wants to put a bed in the middle for naps on warm days. (not really but it would be nice). We still need to build a roof on both sides of the cooler to keep the elements off of it and for some extra storage on that nice concrete slab we poured. Just a reminder, with all the construction between Andy’s parent’s house and the new building/excavation, the farm is a disaster. So we are postponing the farm party pot luck until spring when the kitchen and indoor space should be close to done. We will have a heck of party/grand opening and you will be some of the first people in it. We can’t wait. We hope you will enjoy the space as much as we will. Thanks and have a great weekend! Yes, that is a caterpillar! The new cooler is under the black plastic. The new building space is to the right of the white tent. The whole farm is looking so different!
