PARISH NEWS

Thanks! Thanks to all of the parishioners who worked so hard to make St. Peter’s Day and our farewell celebrations for the Rev. Valerie Carnes and the Rev. John Bonner so successful. Many hands do indeed make light work. Please be sure to offer your time and talents in service of our next gathering. Watch these announcements for more information or contact Linda Cooper or Chassie Long to find out more about the work of the Parish Life Committee.

Our New Rector We welcome the Rev. Quinn Parman, who will begin his work at St. Peter’s Church on July 10. His first Sunday will be July 16. Please make him and his family welcome!

CREATE Collection for July During the month of July, CREATE requests the following donations of school supplies: Pencil pouches, 3-ring white binders, wide-rule spiral notebooks, folders, wide-rule notebook paper, copy paper, facial tissue, hand sanitizer, glue sticks, pencils, cap erasers, colored pencils, dry erase markers, 24-count boxes of crayons, sanitizing wipes, and backpacks. You may leave your donations on the bench inside the Bracewell Room.

No 9:00 am Service in July Just as in 2016, the 9:00 am Family Service will not be held during the month of July. The dates are July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. The 7:30 am and 11:00 am services will be held as usual. The 9:00 am service will resume August 6.

Father “Band Aid” Returns On Sunday, July 9, we are delighted to welcome the Rev. Hunter Huckabay back to St. Peter’s. When we found ourselves without a rector at the end of 2013, Fr. Huckabay served as our supply clergy each Sunday for months. He and his wife, Prestine, have been longtime friends of our parish and we are pleased that he can supply for us on the Sunday before we welcome our new rector to St. Peter’s Church. If you would like to find out why he has the nickname “Father Band Aid,” be sure and come to the 7:30 am or the 11:00 am service on Sunday, July 9.

Book Drive St. Peter’s Church is collecting new and gently used children’s books to replace inventory lost due to the recent flooding of the St. Peter’s School classrooms. What to do: 1) Check out the Requested Inventory sheets posted at Church and sign up to donate specific books (Pre-K through Second Grade); 2) Drop books in “Book Drive” bins located in the Narthex and Bracewell Room; 3) Donate money for purchase of new books (make checks payable to St. Peter’s School); 4) Spread the word and make a big difference! For more information, contact the School at 870-1794. The Open Offering on July 30 will be dedicated to this need.

Safeguarding God’s Children Matt Harbison will lead a training session for “Safeguarding God’s Children” on Thursday, August 10, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Bracewell Room. To register, contact the school or church office.

A Message from Christian Education Although Sunday school is taking a break for the summer, we look forward to seeing everyone at church. In the upcoming weeks, we will be preparing for exciting times to come. Enjoy your summer!

Sunday Noon Fellowship This Summer In thanksgiving for all our faithful Fellowship volunteers who provide refreshments so generously during the year, the Vestry will host the Sunday noon Fellowship all summer. Coffee, lemonade, and cookies will be provided in the Bracewell Room after the 11:00 am service. A Message from the Flower Guild Just a reminder that many Sundays are still available this year if you would like to dedicate flowers for the altar in memory of a deceased loved one, in celebration of a special event, or in thanksgiving for a friend or family member. Check the poster in the Bracewell Room for openings. You may pick up a flower donation form in the church office or contact the Parish Administrator by phone or email. Please specify the date you prefer and whether you would like specific flowers or colors represented. The minimum donation is $35. Make checks payable to St. Peter’s Church and drop in the offering plate, bring by the church office, or mail.
