This week’s Utah hike
BY STEVE BAKER Clipper Staff Writer
Dude Peak, Davis and Salt Lake counties
The Hidden Lake Trail offers terrific views along the Wasatch Front, but offers little shade on a hot day. At the trailhead, take the unmarked trail behind the three large water barrels. The trail is like a roller coast ride on the ridgeline, with lots of up and downs to Dude Peak. A few of the sections are very steep, so have plenty of drinking water for you and your dog. Take your time on these harder sections and enjoy your surroundings as you catch your breath. The journey is just as important then the ending of a hike, so enjoy yourself. Nearing the peak, there is one last downhill to the final push up. Dude Peak is just a rocky outcrop on top, but offers such stunning views of City Creek Canyon, the Salt Lake Valley, Antelope Island and north towards Ogden. Enjoy your time on top, because you earned your beautiful reward!
