Financial and Attendance Update

Whether we like or not life changes! Life changes are usually outside of our control. Life changes are generally things we do not desire. Slowly, life changes as we age. Quickly, life can change through dramatic events, job loss, world disasters, and terrorist attacks. The destruction of the World Trade Centers and Hurricane Katrina made quick lasting changes. Someone said, “no one likes change but a baby that needs a new diaper!” I think we mostly agree. Slow change even seems quick. Children grow. Loved ones pass away. Time moves on without winking at our frailties or loss. What hope is there for stability in a changing world? The answer is always Jesus. Through ministry change, life change, change of events, and much more, Hebrews 13:8 has always given me personal peace. I know I have referenced the passage in past Evangel articles but allow me to take a moment to expound. Hebrews 13:8 reads, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” The single consistent, unalterable, constant in life is Jesus Christ. What does the writer of Hebrews mean? In what way does Jesus not change? Jesus is consistent in His attributes. Jesus is completely divine. Stop to consider the attributes of God. God is love. God is gracious. God is merciful. God is longsuffering. God is forgiving. God is saving. Jesus does not change in the consistency of any previously listed attribute.

Jesus does not change in His character. He will always be the perfect representation of the life humans should live. The character of Christ is impeccable. Hebrews also tells us Jesus is the brightness of the Father’s glory and the express image of His person (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus is consistent in His reception of the weak. The words of Jesus are familiar “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Are you weary today? Scripture promises Jesus is consistent to lift our burdens when we humbly call on Him. 1 Peter 5:7 says “Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” Consistency means today, tomorrow, and forever Jesus will lift the cares of those who are willing to give them away. Jesus is consistent in His guarantee of salvation. Scripture tells us “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed” (1 Peter 1:3-5). The world is shakable, eternity is unshakable. The earth may be removed from its orbit, but heaven is immovable. Jesus is consistent in His promise of salvation. When God tells us He will save us then He will. Romans 10:13 promises “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” Salvation is a promise to be believed. Faith in Christ is faith God will consistently fulfill that which He has guaranteed. Is your world shaking, even today? Is your life shaking with possibilities of job layoffs, shaking with a troubled family life, or shaking with school overload? Turn to Jesus who is the same forever.

Worship Ministry As we enter into the summer, I can’t help but to be excited. Transition is never an easy process on anyone but Jodie and I want to thank you for all of the support. You all have been so kind and so generous in your compliments. It means so much to feel welcomed. Our hopes are to continue in the work that God is doing here and to build on the momentum that is already in place. We are excited to be able to work with new volunteers and see others become more involved. Thank you all for your patience and commitment to the worship service. The gifts and talents that each of you bring are remarkable. I’m honored to work with each of you and look forward to what God has in store here.

Student Ministry First, let me give a big thank you for all of those who have supported the youth going to camp this year! The encouragement and generosity you have shown has been amazing. Camp is such an awesome opportunity for our students. It is a chance for them to separate themselves from the pressures of everyday life and gives them a chance to focus solely on their spiritual walk with Christ. What an opportunity for them and what an opportunity for the leaders who are going to camp to be able to invest into the lives of the youth for 5 straight days! My first experience at camp happened when I was a junior in High School. I remember being one of nearly 1,000 students participating in that week of camp and I was blown away and encouraged to meet so many others my age who were beginning their journey with Christ. While attending college, I spent many of my summers as one of the student staff at camp and upon graduation I spent 3 years in full-time service at a Christian camp. During that time I have had the pleasure to witness hundreds of baptisms and testimonies. Camp can be a life changing time for many, students and leaders alike! We will be headed out for Cedarmore Camp & Conference Center located in Bagdad, Kentucky on Monday, June 29 and returning July 3. The theme for the week is Proclaim the Gospel! Please continue to support the students by praying for them during this time. Pray for safe travels, for their Bible studies, for the speakers who will be bringing the messages, and for hearts to be receptive. Continue praying even as camp ends and students return to their families that their experiences and growth during this time would not be lost in returning to the everyday life. What happens after camp is just as important as what happens while there. For those interested I’ll be posting pictures and updates on our Facebook page during the camp week.
