6 April 2016 Dear Parents I am pleased to be able to tell you about some major changes in your children’s school. I hope you are already starting to see improvements. We are determined that Edenthorpe Hall should rapidly become the excellent school that you want for your children. 1: The Department for Education has approved plans for the school to join the Reach 4 group of academies from the start of the next school year (September 2016). The school would become a ‘sponsored academy’ and Reach 4 is the sponsor. They become accountable for standards in the school, replacing the local authority. Reach4 has the quality and values that we want for the children, and has the capacity to support rapid improvement. I suggest you have a look at their website http://reach4.org.uk to see what they believe in. I have included Reach4’s statement of principles at the bottom of this letter. We will go through a consultation process with staff, parents and other interested parties and be able to give you more detail in the next few weeks. 2: Through Reach4 we are delighted to have secured the services of Mrs Wendy Wheldon as Executive Head teacher. Mrs Wheldon is a rare find! She has already started working at the school. She is a National Leader of Education. This means that she is nationally accredited by the Department for Education for her proven ability to raise standards in schools and life chances for children. She is Principal of a very successful academy in Sheffield and is backed by her leadership team and the wider resources of the Reach organisation. 3: As you are aware Mrs Mahoney has been ill for some time. She has decided that she is not able to return to school, so left work at the end of the Easter holiday. We are grateful for her contribution and wish her well in the future. 4: We really value the opportunity to talk to parents. There is an open meeting at 3:00 on Thursday 7 April (tomorrow) and the Parents’ Forum at 6:00 the same day. Please stay in touch. Best wishes,
David Fox, Chair of Interim Executive Board _____________________________________________________________________________ Reach 4’s Description of their work: Reach4 was established in 2015, with a view to working with primary, secondary and all-through schools in the South Yorkshire region. The organisation is a sister trust to REAch2, the largest and most successful primary academy Trust in the country. Reach4 is jointly led by Sir Steve Lancashire (the founder of REAch2 and Reach4) and Libby Nicholas, an extremely experienced national leader in the education sector. Reach4 has the highest expectations when it comes to academic results, but their aspirations go well beyond the concept of ‘schooling’. The Trust believes in ‘inspiration beyond measure’ and is committed to delivering an education with no boundaries. In practice, that means not just academic excellence, but helping children and young people develop in the broadest sense through arts, sports, leadership opportunities, enrichment and community.
