About the Eagles A dominant 12-3 win over Maranatha that featured 14 walks and a season-high 12 hits highlighted a tough week for the Edgewood College softball team. After an unusual seven-run rally fell short in an 11-8 game one defeat, the Edgewood College softball team offense came alive with a season-high 12 hits and starting pitcher Shannon Whitmus dominated with 12 strikeouts in 12-3 game two victory at Maranatha Baptist University in their final non-conference doubleheader of the season on Friday. The Eagles (4-30) allowed the Sabercats to jump out to an 8-1 advantage through the first four innings of game one, but rallied with seven runs on zero hits in the eighth in 11-8 loss. It was tough weekend for the Eagles as they started out with a pair of losses to current NACC leader Concordia Wisconsin, 8-3 and 18-0, on Saturday afternoon. A night after registering a season-high 12 hits in win over Maranatha, the Eagles struggled against Concordia Wisconsin’s Emily Brekke, arguably the best pitcher in the NACC. She limited the Eagle offense to one hit in game one and tossed a 5.0 inning no-hitter in game two. Whitmus and the Eagles battled, but fell short in a 3-0, 10-inning defeat in game one against MSOE on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles dropped game two, 7-0, after being held to three hits in the night cap.
About the Sabres Marian is 22-14, 9-9 in the NACC and is fighting for the sixth and final seed in the NACC tournament in today’s regular season finale. They have lost three of their last four games, but recently beat Aurora, 5-1. The trio of Olivia Hartley, Gianna Esposito, and Sara Terrian anchor a Sabre offense and are each batting .336 with 25+ RBI, 18+ runs scored, and seven or more doubles.
