In sunny Puerto Rico, Edgewood College dropped their first game 88-78 to Ramapo College but took down Wesley College 73-65 in the second day of the tournament. The Eagles were hurt by a poor start against Ramapo, as the Roadrunners led 22-5 in the early going. The Eagles mounted a huge comeback and led by one at the break thanks to a 29-11 run. The Roadrunners shot lights out in the second half and Ve’Shawn Polite scored 22 of his 26 points in the second. The Eagles and Roadrunners were even until Ramapo went on a 10-0 run with 13:52 left. The Roadrunners would lead by at least eight the rest of the way to snag the victory. The Eagles were down eight at one point in the first half against Wesley but used a 25-7 run to enter the break with a 10-point lead. Emilio Lopez and Matt Savatski hit huge threepointers in the run. Wesley scored eight-straight to open the second half but the Eagles kept the pressure steady and led by a comfortable margin most of the rest of the way, never letting the Wolverines pull within five points.

About the Sabres Defending NACC champion Marian University went on a six-game winning streak from Nov. 29 to Dec. 17 but have since dropped four straight contests. The losing streak began with a close, 65-62 loss to Aurora while their most recent defeat came at the hands of Benedictine on Jan. 3. Sophomore forward Josh Creed leads the team in scoring at 15.4 points per game and has three games with at least 20 points this season. Today’s game is a rematch of last season’s NACC Tournament Championship game. The top-seeded Sabres pulled out a 65-61 victory over the seventh-seed Eagles to advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

GREAT COMPETITION.

Edgewood College men’s basketball team continues to play one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country. Last season the Eagles played the 8th toughest non-conference schedule out of over 400 NCAA Division III schools. Three of their five nonconference games were against teams ranked in the Top 10 in the country. This seasons non-conference highlights include games against three nationally ranked teams and a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico to take on two of the best programs in the country.

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD COACH

JUSTIN MEYER

The Booster Club is an integral part of our Edgewood College Basketball Family. Support from fans like you has played a significant role in the success of our program, which has earned 10 conference championships and three NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances. During my time here at Edgewood, the Eagles have won four conference titles, finished runner-up four times, and played in seven conference championship games. We have also won the second most games in the NACC over the last eight years. In 2014 we reached the conference championship game for the third time in the last four years. Now beginning my 12th full season with the Eagles Basketball Family, I am very excited about the upcoming season. I feel very fortunate and honored to be part of a program with such a storied history, as well as a loyal and dedicated fan base, and look forward to leading the Eagles again this season. Having a large number of letter winners and contributors back this year, I truly feel we are ready to take the next step and not only return to the NACC Championship Game but win it this season as well. With a dedicated core of returning players and a very good group of newcomers we are focused on having a great season and hopefully returning to the NCAA Tournament. this off season has seen lots of hard work, sweat, and dedication from our team in hopes of it paying off in February. Our program continues to attract high-quality student-athletes who strive to do their best both on the court and in the classroom. Last season we had the second highest GPA of any male sport on campus with a 3.18 team GPA and we had the most community service hours of any sport on campus with over 600 team hours. Our players know they represent everyone who has ever worn an Eagle uniform or attended our fine institution. Now, as we anxiously await the beginning of a new season, we invite your support to share in our quest to bring home another championship to Edgewood College. By becoming an Eagle Booster you can be confident you are investing in a first class program by providing our student-athletes with apparel, meals and special travel opportunities. This year we will be traveling to San Juan, Puerto Rico to play two nationally ranked opponents. As you know trips like these offer our student-athletes a once in a life time experience! They also come with a steep price tag. This season all Booster Club donations will go towards funding the Puerto Rico trip with the goal of having our student-athletes pay as little as possible for this wonderful experience.
