Brothers, as the fall semester of 2013 begins, the excitement for the events that we have planned for this semester builds. The brothers are eager to start another successful semester. The chapter worked very hard this past semester and achieved the highest GPA we have received in the past few years. This was done by the very hard work of our scholarship committee and a commitment to achieving excellence that we knew we could achieve. We are very excited to see what we will achieve throughout this semester and to continue to improve as we learn and become better men. A few major events that we have this semester are Greek Week (September 13th-21st), the second annual BBQ bash in St. Louis (Date), and of course Homecoming 2013 (October 18th-20th). The brothers of Gamma Xi have been workinga hard and preparing to celebrate our 110th anniversary of the chapter and the 25th anniversary of living on 12th street, at this year’s homecoming celebration. This is planning to be one of the biggest celebrations that our chapter has seen and we would love to see all of our alumni who made this chapter what it is today attend. More information can be found in the homecoming section of the GAB or online at our chapter website (www.mstsigmanu.com). Greek week is fast approaching and is looking to be another great one, as one of our senior representatives, ΓΞ 1462 Ethan Margherio, is having his GODZ week. I know he is just as fired up about Greek week as we are! We also have ΓΞ 1470 Adam McMikle, as VP of Recruitment, and ΓΞ1487 Connor Wolk as a first year representative. We are hoping for a great showing from the house in the weekly events. We would also like to welcome any alumni who would like to attend the events. This year will be the second annual BBQ bash in St. Louis. Last year was a great hit, and we thoroughly enjoyed running into the alumni who attended. We have a better positioned booth this year and looking to double our money raised from last year. We were the first Greek organization to participate in the event and everyone had a blast and we wish to continue that. The chapter worked together really well and accomplished our goal of donating money to CHADS Coalition, a foundation founded by one of our Gamma Xi brothers. We would love to get some more support from our St. Louis
alumni and come visit our booth. More information will be sent out in the near future. This past summer was a very good summer for the Rush Chairmen, successfully pledging 21 new candidates. The new candidates are eager to work hard, and have showed that they want to strive to be members of Sigma Nu. We are looking forward to seeing what this class can achieve on their way to brotherhood. I would also like to congratulate our newest initiate, Mitchell Lawrence, which brings us to 1498 initiates to the gamma xi chapter. We have 1 member on co-op this semester, putting us at 34 actives in house, 10 members living in the annexes, and 10 members living out of house, which puts us as a total man power of 76 strong men. I hope to continue this growth and become a better chapter as we do so. Our campus involvement has increased over the past year and we are almost at a hundred percent of members involved in other student organizations on campus. We have two members who started their own organizations on campus and are increasing their membership. We also have two members on the St. Pat’s Board, ΓΞ 1470 Joel Thorne, Webmaster, and ΓΞ 1496 Steven Paquette, Queen’s & Knights-Ceremonies. We hope to continue to increase our present on campus and strive to be the best on campus. There was also some very important renovations that were done over this past summer to the foyer, game room (old chapter room), dining room, new pillars to the front porch, new electrical wires run, new ceiling tiles, and others odds and ends that needed to be redone such as painting the hallways, and new room doors. This was all possible by the very generous donation to the house by an anonymous brother, who we are all very thankful for. The rooms received a new, more modern look that is sure to pay off dividends in rush and other events, as it already has shown. We cannot thank our alumni enough for what they have done for us. On behalf of the Gamma Xi Chapter of Sigma Nu, I would like to extend our gratitude for your continued support and interest in the Fraternity. Please feel free to stop by the house for any of the events over this coming semester or if you have any questions, ideas, or comments, please feel free to contact me by email at
[email protected] or by telephone at 210-882-8409. Fraternally, Vincent Sanchez Gamma Xi 1449

LIEUTENANT COMMANDER’S REPORT
Brothers, The Gamma Xi Chapter is an ever-improving and continuously evolving Home for our Brothers and Alumnus. We strive to live up to and surpass the legacy passed on to us by those who came before. The Executive Committee has adopted the goals and precedents set forth by the current Active Chapter and those who came before us. We are perpetually motivated to higher success through short-term communal accomplishments and long-standing academic advancement. Accountability and communication are the goals we look to reach, promoting improvements within our officers, committees, and subcommittees. We believe that through use of proper delegation and collaboration throughout the Chapter as a whole, our House will become an unlimited resource of helping-hands and will play more to its strengths while developing the weaker areas within the Chapter. Thus creating an even stronger Brotherhood with more well-rounded members. We set our House scholarship goal at achieving a 3.0 GPA or better, and we have achieved this goal this Spring 2013. The Chapter looks to continue building off this triumph with our newly developed scholarship program, as this successful spring semester was its conception. Along with our scholarship goals, we are always in progress of building relations within the Greek and Campus communities, intramural competitiveness, and community service involvement. The renovations being done around the House this semester are looking all too great with the new flooring in the Foyer, Game Room, and Dining Room, all new ceiling tiles, new bathroom stalls, new lighting throughout the House, the brand new apartment complex, as well as a few fresh coats of paint! We as a Chapter are very proud to call this Chapter Home of Gamma Xi our current place of living and we are looking forward to hosting one hell of a Homecoming 2013 to prove our appreciation for our generous Alumni Chapter and Housing Corporation! We truly hope that all can be in attendance as we wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on this celebration 110 years in the making!! If anyone has any questions about the Chapter internal or housing improvements, feel free to contact me at 573-703-5974 or
[email protected]. We will all be anxiously awaiting your arrival October 18th! Fraternally, ΓΞ1470 Adam Jon McMikle
MARSHAL REPORT
For the fall semester of 2013, the Gamma Xi Chapter has initiated one of the Brother’s from the previous semester. This now brings the Gamma Xi Chapter up to 1498 Knights. The Gamma Xi Chapter has welcomed 21 new candidates for this Fall Semester and I am very excited by the potential that our new candidates have brought to the Chapter. Each of the candidates is eager to learn more about the ways of Sigma Nu, and it is my goal to make sure that all of these candidates successfully complete the Pledging Process, while also having a successful scholastic semester. I have set high expectations of this candidate class, and I believe they can meet my expectations given the proper guidance and motivation. If you have any questions for me or would like to know any information about how our current candidate class is doing please contact me at

BROTHERHOOD/PARTICIPATION CHAIRMAN Brotherhood at Gamma Xi is stronger than ever. Even now, at the beginning of the year, brothers are working hard to continue our traditions. The chapter is excited for the upcoming Homecoming celebration, and we have decided to focus a large amount of our effort to place 1st among other fraternities. To this end, the chapter has elected Brother Davis as our Homecoming Decorations Chairman. Even as I write this, Brother Davis is hard at work to ensure that our house is decked out for House Decs. This year marks the 51st Annual Greek Week Celebration, and of course the house is very enthusiastic for this event. Brother Weaver has been elected our Greek Week Chairman, and although we have decided to focus our effort on Homecoming, the chapter is still very excited for the upcoming opportunity to show our Greek pride. On a smaller scale, we continue to hold weekly brotherhood events, from bowling to poker, and weekend tours of the local breweries are in the works. After a disappointing third place finish in intramurals last year, Gamma Xi is looking to finish on the top spot for once this year, and with hard work and dedication it’s looking quite possible. If there are any questions, comments or suggestions please contact me by email at
[email protected]. Jonathan Daniels ΓΞ 1471 Brotherhood Chairman
RUSH The Gamma Xi Chapter of Sigma Nu welcomes 19 new candidates this semester, with a few potential members still pending. Even though we didn’t have any new candidates in the spring semester of 2013, the recruitment chairmen spent the summer actively searching for top-quality men to become the next generation of Sigma Nu brothers. In addition to many events such as paintballing, Cardinals Games, a camping trip, a float trip, and a trip to the Offsets, the Gamma Xi Chapter also started a new scholarship for incoming freshman called the Rising Knight Scholarship. Through this tool, we were able to spread the values of Sigma Nu to more potential new members, as well as find out more about interested students such as high school GPA and extracurricular involvement. With this win-win scenario for both prospective members and the recruitment chairmen, it is likely that we will continue this scholarship. With the new initiatives from the Interfraternity Council in recruitment, the rush chairmen hope to not only build our spring rush program from its deficient position currently, but also improve student awareness of Sigma Nu during summer rush next year and beyond. These events range from further material at registration days to additional events during Opening Week. We look forward to showing more students the values of Sigma Nu through these opportunities. For more information on our recruitment initiatives or with any questions/comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me at
[email protected] or (636) 233-8083. Fraternally, Connor Wolk ‘1487’ Recruitment Chairman
Homecoming Hello Brothers, The semester of the snake is upon us. Are you ready for the best Homecoming ever? This year’s theme, chosen by Student Union Board, is “A Homecoming of Heroic Proportions” So grab your cape, mask, and high rise briefs because, to this house, our alumni are heroes. This semester we’ve already gotten underway to prepare for a Legion of Sigma Nu alums to descend on the city of Rolla. Opening Week could not even finish before the alumni work day. We painted the hallways and started replacing the timbers of the back deck. You won’t recognize the interior of the house. The old chapter room, now the game room, has been completely redone with new lights, fireplace, floors, paint, and trim. The dining room is also getting a face lift with new wall treatments, floors, lights, and window shades. Then there’s the homecoming celebration. Campus has a number of events you can look forward to. Go to http://bit.ly/14NiFhn for the full listing of campus events. This is Sigma Nu’s year to take home first place in the homecoming events. And we have 21 new faces to help us do that. Gamma Xi chapter is also throwing our special celebration to commemorate being the first fraternity on campus for 110 years. The Gamma Xi chapter events can be found at http://mstsigmanu.com/agenda. Please make sure to fill out the registration form on the mstsigmanu.com website under the Homecoming ’13 tab or the one included in this edition of the GAB. So keep watching for the Sigma Nu signal in the sky on October 18th. We can’t wait to see you and show you all the changes we’ve made since the last time you came back to Rolla. Jason Reed, Homecoming 2013 Chair
Patio of Honor
Greetings Brothers of Gamma Xi. As the chapter continues to grow, so does its history. We would like to give you the opportunity to not only leave a piece of your time here with the house, but to also help provide for the future of the house. The Patio of Honor continues to expand and it would be our pleasure to have you as our next honoree! Each commemorative brick is engraved with your name and initiation number and is placed alongside of the those of your brothers. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to offer the cast aluminum star due to issues with our supplier. For a minimum donation of $75 you can have a brick created with your name and initiation number engraved on the front. The money will go towards the cost of the brick materials, as well as improvements to the house. We greatly appreciate your help to continually making Sigma Nu the best house on campus. You can contact me by email at

SCHOLARSHIP NEWS
Though the Gamma Xi chapter dropped to the rank of 13th in grades, we raised our house GPA by .17 and succeeded in bringing it above the 3.0 mark for the first time in 4 semesters. The Greek community as a whole did very well last semester causing the drop in ranking despite our chapter’s GPA rise to 3.01. The new scholarship policies and incentives were very effective and will be followed closely again this year. There were a total of only 8 brothers who were under the 2.5 mark and 3 members who finished the semester with a perfect 4.0. Everyone is ready to hit the books hard again this semester to hopefully continue our rise in GPA as we set a goal of a 3.10 this semester with the desire to rank in the top five in academics. We are looking forward to seeing all of our tremendous alumni this Homecoming to celebrate our 110th year on campus and our 25th anniversary of the house!

The Gab is Going Green!
Over the next few semesters we will be sending out digital copies of the Gab only. This will both cut back on costs and save a lot of paper. In order for this to work though we need to have all of your email addresses. Please email me, Jared Cox, at
[email protected] with your name and email address.
HOUSING CORPoration
Brothers, With Homecoming 2013 l just around the corner, Housing Corporation along with the help of the Active Chapter, have made great strides to improve our property. Among the improvements completed over the summer were new ceiling grid and tiles, lights and switching, new windows, bathroom ceramic tile floors and walls, toilet partitions and accessories, bathroom vanities and fixtures and new floors and finishes in Foyer, Games Room (old Chapter Rm) & Dining Room. In addition to these upgrades, Housing Corp will replace the front columns, replace the doors and trim and install new landscaping. Finally, the Chapter hosted the annual Alumni/Chapter Workday on Saturday August 17th to work on various maintenance related activities including replacement of the deck planks on the back porch and repainting of the hallways. Thanks to all that participated. These improvements to modernize and maintain our property are necessary to keep Sigma Nu competitive with other fraternities on campus and enable the active chapter to recruit the best quality men. With projected expenses in excess of $100K we ask everyone to donate whatever you can to help with the cost of this important next step in our Chapter’s continued success on campus. Please feel free to mail your check to Darren Peeler (5 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752) or Adam French (1078 Bridleridge Crossing, High Ridge, MO 63049) and make payable to Sigma Nu Fraternity. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated. As busy as we all are with family, career and other commitments, we hope that you can make plans to join us over Homecoming weekend October 18th-20th to celebrate the improvements to our House, renew old friendships and meet our next generation of Gamma Xi brothers. Please make sure to reserve your room at the Drury Inn by September 19th or Hampton Inn by September 26th to get the special “Sigma Nu rate.” And help us prepare for your arrival by registering via the attached info sheet (return to Darren Peeler
[email protected]) or access the Gamma Xi website at mstsigmanu.com and navigate to Homecoming 2013 for on-line registration as well as all the latest info on this year’s Homecoming Celebration. Lastly, please help us spread the word to all alumni and ensure the best Homecoming in the history of Gamma Xi. We hope your summer was fun and safe and look forward to celebrating 25 years on 12th Street and 110 years at Rolla with you at Homecoming 2013. Fraternally, Your Gamma Xi Housing Corporation
