HOW DID THAT NORTHEASTERN SERIES GO? • Northeastern swept the home-and-home series against BU. • The Terriers dropped a 3-2 overtime decision at Walter Brown Arena on Oct. 6 before they suffered a 6-3 road setback the next day. • BU scored first in both games, holding a 2-0 lead in the overtime loss and leading 1-0 just 5:15 into the Oct. 7 affair. • Five different Terriers lit the lamp against the Huskies.
HISTORY WITH MAINE • The Terriers are 26-8-2 alltime against the Black Bears, including a 12-5-0 record at Alfond Arena. • BU and Maine split a twogame set in Orono last season, with the Terriers earning a 5-3 win before losing the second contest, 4-1. • The Terriers have won at least one game each year against the Black Bears. SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS • Maine enters the weekend with a 4-2-0 record, with all four wins coming over the team’s last five games. • Maine recently split a home series with then-No. 10 Robert Morris, dropping a 2-1 decision on Oct. 13 before skating to a 5-2 win the next day. • Friday’s fixture will be the first league contest of the year for Maine. • Sophomore Tereza Vanisova leads the Black Bears in both points (10) and assists (7). • Vanisova and senior Brooke Stacey each lead Maine with three goals apiece. • Sophomore goaltender Carly Jackson is 3-2-0 in five starts for Maine but owns an impressive 1.81 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage. LAST TIME AGAINST MAINE • BU dispatched the Black Bears, 5-0, on Feb. 19 at Walter Brown Arena. • It was the regular-season finale for both clubs. • Rebecca Leslie notched two goals and added an assist for a three-point day. • Both Victoria Bach and Nina Rodgers (2a) tallied multiple points while Savannah Newton recorded an assist. • Leslie put BU ahead for good at the 9:01 mark of the first frame. • Three of the Terriers’ five goals came via the power play.
SOME POSITIVES FROM THE NU SERIES • Five different Terriers lit the lamp in two games against the Huskies. • Two freshmen - Nara Elia and Kristina Schuler - notched their first collegiate goals in Friday’s 3-2 overtime defeat. • Senior Savannah Newton recorded her first collegiate goal the next day. • Junior Mary Grace Kelley and senior Victoria Bach also scored for BU. • Freshman Jesse Compher recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on Kelley’s goal. • Redshirt sophomore Abbey Stanley assisted on both of Friday’s goals and Schuler notched her first collegiate assist as well that night. SAME CLASS, SAME LINE, SAME RESULT • Freshmen Kristina Schuler and Nara Elia have skated on the same line through the first three games, and that partnership paid dividends on Oct 6. • Not only did Schuler score her first collegiate goal in the opening period, but she provided the primary assist on Elia’s first collegiate marker later in that first frame. • They were the first two Terrier freshmen to find the back of the net this season. • The duo combined to generate five shots on goal in that contest.

2017-18 boston university Women’s ice hockey @TerrierWHockey NEWTON NOTCHES HER FIRST GOAL • Senior Savannah Newton entered the Terriers’ weekend series against Northeastern with 17 career points thanks to 17 assists. • Her scoring portfolio diversified on Oct. 7 when she scored her first collegiate goal in the second period. • Newton added an assist to complete her fifth career multi-point game. COMPHER COLLECTS HER FIRST POINT • Freshman Jesse Compher became the latest Terrier rookie to earn her first collegiate point on Oct. 7 at Northeastern. • She won an offensive-zone faceoff and fired a shot on goal that led to Mary Grace Kelley converting the rebound. • Compher generated seven shots on goal over the two games against the Huskies and is second on the team with 11 total shots on goal. • Her average of 3.67 shots on goal per game ranks eighth nationally and second in Hockey East among all rookies. BACH TO BUSINESS • Senior Victoria Bach led the Terriers with 49 points last year and is on pace to once again be a major part of the Terrier offense. • Bach notched her first goal of the season on Oct. 7 at Northeastern. • She also recorded the primary assist on Reagan Rust’s goal against Merrimack on Sept. 23. • Going back to last year, Bach has notched a point in four of the last six games overall and 10 of the Terriers’ last 12 regular-season contests.
STANLEY SECURES FIRST BU POINTS • Redshirt sophomore Abbey Stanley notched her first two points as a Terrier on Oct. 6 against Northeastern. • She assisted on both BU goals, both of which came on the power play. • The two assists marked a career high for Stanley. • It was her second career multi-point effort; she also notched two points against Bemidji State on Oct. 28, 2016. • Stanley entered the year having recorded six points (2g, 4a) in 33 games with North Dakota last season. REAGAN NOT RUSTY SO FAR • Junior Reagan Rust has tallied a point in two of her first three games with BU. • She recorded an assist on Oct. 6, one game after Rust scored her first goal as a Terrier on Sept. 23 against Merrimack. • It was her first goal since she lit the lamp for RIT against Syracuse on Feb. 17, 2017. • Two of her three goals from last season came on the power play, as did her marker against Merrimack. • Rust is tied for the team lead with two points this season.

NEWCOMERS ALWAYS START STRONG • Thanks to Reagan Rust’s goal, a Terrier newcomer has now recorded a point in each of the last four season-openers. • Seven of the eight newcomers have played all three games, with freshman goaltender Corinne Schroeder serving as the backup netminder all three times. CAN’T KEEP BU OFF THE BOARD • BU was one of just two teams in the nation to not be shut out last season. • The only other team? Reigning national champion Clarkson. • The Terriers have only been shut out once over the last two seasons, a 5-0 loss to No. 1 Boston College in the Hockey East title game. • They have not been held scoreless in a regular-season game since Feb. 19, 2015, when they lost 5-0 to BC. FROM DEFENSE TO OFFENSE • Five of the Terriers’ seven points (2g, 5a) so far this season have come from their blue liners. • Junior Reagan Rust and senior Savannah Newton have provided the goals, while redshirt sophomore Abbey Stanley has two of the five helpers. • BU currently ranks third in the nation in goals per game by defensemen. • Last year, nearly 20 percent of the Terriers’ point production came from the blue line.
O’NEIL KEEPING BUSY • Senior Erin O’Neil has made at least 30 saves in all three of her starts this year. • She has averaged 32 saves per game, which is good for third among all NCAA goaltenders that have played at least three games. • Only Merrimack’s two goaltenders have stopped more shots per game. FRESHMEN WINNING FACEOFFS • No group of freshmen in the country has a higher faceoff win percentage than the Terriers’ group of six forwards. • BU freshmen have won 61.6% of the draws they have taken (53-of-86). • Overall, the Terriers are eighth in the country in faceoff percentage (54.1%). • Jesse Compher is second among NCAA rookies and eighth in the entire country with a win percentage of 66.7%. • Compher has claimed 26 of the 39 faceoffs she has taken this season. A NEW FACE BEHIND THE BU BENCH • With the departure of assistant coaches Allison Coomey (Penn State) and Katie Lachapelle (Holy Cross), the Terriers will have new assistants for the first time since the 2008-09 season. • Liz Keady Norton joined the staff after spending the past two seasons as an assistant at Harvard. • A 2008 graduate of Princeton, Keady was also an assistant at Union.

2017-18 boston university Women’s ice hockey @TerrierWHockey DUROCHER NAMED ONE OF NEW ENGLAND’S MOST INFLUENTIAL • The New England Hockey Journal released a list of the 100 most influential people in New England hockey, and head coach Brian Durocher made that list. • Durocher, who will enter his 13th season behind the BU bench in 201718, has been one of the most successful coaches in women’s hockey during his time at BU. • He won his 250th game last year and has taken the Terriers to two national title games in addition to winning five Hockey East championships.
TALKING ABOUT THE TRANSFERS • The Terriers will have two new defensemen this year, both of whom have experience at the Division I level. • Junior Reagan Rust played two seasons at RIT, accumulating 32 points (8g, 24a) during her time with the Tigers. • Rust was a CHA All-Rookie selection as a freshman after she recorded 18 points on five goals and 13 assists. • Redshirt sophomore Abbey Stanley played 33 games last season at North Dakota, scoring two goals and adding four assists for six points.
TERRIER TRIO TAKEN IN NWHL DRAFT • Three Terrier seniors were selected in this summer’s NWHL Draft. • Victoria Bach was the first Terrier off the board, going seventh overall to the New York Riveters. • Nina Rodgers followed when the Connecticut Whale chose her with the 17th overall pick. • Rebecca Leslie went two picks later at 19th, joining Bach as a Riveters selection. • All three players will be eligible to play in the NWHL after this season. • No other school in the nation had more players taken in this year’s NWHL draft than BU.
TRANSFERS TYPICALLY SUCCESSFUL • BU has a rich history of players that transferred to BU and immediately had success on the ice. • Most recently, Nina Rodgers (Minnesota) debuted for the Terriers and had a career year with 31 points (11g, 20a). • In addition to Rodgers, Mary Parker shined last year at BU after she exhausted her eligibility at Harvard. • Parker led the Terriers with 24 goals and also added 21 assists for 45 points.
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN • Senior Rebecca Leslie will serve as captain for the 2017-18 season. • She is the 14th captain in program history. LESLIE WILL HAVE SOME HELP • Three Terriers were named assistant captains for the upcoming season. • Seniors Victoria Bach and Erin O’Neil will wear letters on their sweaters this year. • Junior Sammy Davis was also selected as an assistant captain, though she will miss the entire season due to injury. NEW TEAM, NEW FACES • BU will welcome six freshmen and two transfers to the squad for the 2017-18 campaign. • Five forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender comprise the incoming group of players.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK • Five of the six freshmen will skate at forward for the Terriers. • Two of those players - Nara Elia and Jesse Compher - played in the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Under-18 Championship. • Compher won gold with the United States while Elia claimed silver with Canada. • Lauren Klein tallied 59 points (33g, 26a) during a post-grad year with Northwood School in 2016-17, while Kristina Schuler and Rachel Allen both shined as senior captains at their respective high schools prior to arriving at BU. • The lone non-forward of the group is goaltender Corinne Schroeder, who also won silver with Canada’s Under-18 Team at the 2017 IIHF Women’s World Championship. • Schroeder also posted a .926 save percentage and a 2.54 goals-against average in 15 games during her 201617 season with Balmoral Hall.
