Today, I will collect, organize, represent, and interpret data using picture graphs.

Vocabulary Picture graph: a graph showing information using pictures. What is your favorite dessert? Cookie

Teacher Resources Considerations: This will be the students’ first exposure to picture graphs. Graphing is not covered in Kindergarten. The class must be surveyed for each graph.

Steps: Ice Cream

1. Survey information. 2. Represent each person/vote with a picture. 3. Answer questions about the graph.

Application of MPs: Yogurt

Greatest: most, more (Ice Cream) Least: less, fewest (Cookie) How many more “people voted for Ice Cream than Yogurt?” 7 — 3 = 4 more

MP2: How do you know your answers are correct? MP5: What tool did you use to help you solve the problems? MP6: How can you use the vocabulary words from today’s lesson to explain your answers?
