On Thursday, December 12, the Gadsden Chapter hosted its monthly meeting with the theme “Winning Together.” The guest speaker was LeRoy Falcon, CEO/executive director of the YMCA of the Coosa Valley. He shared with us some valuable information about the roles and tasks many of us play in group and team work. We began the meeting with an ice breaker to find someone who had experienced a statement on the handout. We learned the 5 stages in Group Development. 1) Getting Acquainted 2) Setting Goals 3) Testing each other and the Leader, which can be seen as conflict, competition or rebellion 4) Reaching a state of relative calm, in which trust and openness are dominant and 5) Working and being productive. In addition some of the roles individuals play were Gatekeeping, Initiating, Encouraging, Clarifying or Elaborating, Summarizing, Checking In and Blocking to name a few. We completed several on hand activities such as a partnered hand rope activity and turning a rug on the opposite side without stepping off the rug onto the floor. I would like to thank you all for attending all the programs for the 2013 year. I look forward to seeing you in January 2014. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
