I hope this is the year that everyone is the One! I think this year’s theme is telling us it is time for us to step out of our dull routine and make a difference. Be the leader in your office, be the first to get your certification, be the first to join our organization, be the one to become active making this “your” organization. So many times we sit back letting others do all the work when actually we may have some eager eyes watching us and all we need to influence and avalanche of action is to Be The One to take the first step. As you know our membership drive is in October. I challenge everyone to invite at least one person to come to our Membership Drive Meeting. This way we should have a good number of prospects to attend as we know not everyone invited will attend. It is important that we recruit some new prospects as a lot of our current members are getting to retirement age. We need to grow now while we have all the experience still with us to help the new members grow into solid IAAP members. See you at the Pitman next month! Carol Hannah, President IAAP Gadsden Chapter

September Chapter Meeting 2012
Guest Speaker was Mr. Jimmy (Bugs) Kilgore, Fire Fighter and Commander of Station 8. Bugs gave a brief history of the Fire Fighters and multiple tips on safety in any environment.
FIRE SAFETY CHECKLIST: Install and maintain a working smoke alarm outside of every sleep area and remember to change the battery at least once a year. Designate two escape routes from each bedroom and practice them regularly. Teach everyone the "Stop, Drop, and Roll" technique in case clothing catches on fire. Avoid storing old mattresses in the home or garage. Teach kids that matches, lighters and candles are tools, not toys. If you suspect that a child is playing with fire, check under beds and in closets for telltale signs like burned matches. Matches and lighters should be stored in a secure drawer or cabinet. http://dc.about.com/od/publicsafety/a/FirePrevention.htm
