MEC First Round Wednesday, February 28th …………………………6:00 p.m. Charleston Civic Center……….Charleston, West Virginia The Matchup The No. 10 seeded Pioneers will face the 7 seeded UVa-Wise Cavaliers in the MEC First Round for the second straight year with last year’s matchup being reversed. It will also be the third matchup between the two schools this year. UVa-Wise won both matchups this season (82-65, and 89-87 in OT). Darhius Nunn had a season and career high assists for the Pioneers against the Cavaliers in second meeting with 11. The Pioneers are 9-3 against UVa-Wise since 2013 with two wins coming against the Cavaliers in the MEC Tournament (2015 and 2017). GSC is a perfect 2-0 vs. UVa-Wise in the league’s Tournament. Taiwo Badmus has scored 20 + points in both meetings this season vs. GSC while also scoring a season high 38 points back on January 27, 2018.
