Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Football Players-of-the-Week Announced (Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played on October 21, 2017. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2017-2018 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/ Football Players-of-the-Week Offense – Dillon Turner, Quarterback (Dakota Wesleyan University) Dakota Wesleyan quarterback Dillon Turner is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Turner, a senior from Salem, Arkansas, went 22-31 for 288 yards through the air including five touchdown passes. In addition he piled up 161 yards on the ground and two more scores. Turner is now the leader for the Tigers for passing yards in a career with 10,078. Leading up to Saturday's contest, Turner was No. 1 in total offensive yards (3,088), total offensive yards per game (386) and No. 1 in the NAIA in total passing with 2,486 yards. The Tigers will travel to Seward, Nebraska, to take on Concordia. Kick off will be at 1 pm. Defense – Tanner Machacek, Linebacker (Northwestern College) Northwestern linebacker Tanner Machacek is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Machacek, a sophomore, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, helped lead No.15 Northwestern to a 31-21 road win over No.19 Doane last weekend in Crete as he had five solo and eight assisted tackles, including two for a loss. He also recovered a fumble; one of the six turnovers forced by the Raider Defense in the contest. The Red Raiders will host Dordt College on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1 pm. Special Teams – Connor Niles, Wide Receiver (Morningside College) Connor Niles of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Niles, a junior, from Sioux City, Iowa, had a 53-yard kickoff return to the Hastings' 35-yard line to set up the Mustangs' first touchdown of the game in their 56-16 win. The 53-yard run back was the Mustangs' longest kick return of the season. Niles, who is averaging 24.6 yards per kickoff return, also had eight pass receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns in the Mustangs' victory. The 4th-ranked Mustangs host Midland on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
