Hastings Tabbed by Coaches as Preseason Volleyball Favorite (Sioux City, Iowa) – The defending NAIA National Champion, Hastings College, tallied 96 points and was picked first in the 2017 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Preseason Coaches’ Volleyball Poll. The Broncos garnered seven of eleven first place votes. Dordt, who was picked second with 86 points, received three first place votes. Midland was picked third with 84 points, while Northwestern picked up one first place vote and was fourth with 75 points. Hastings was the GPAC regular season co-champion with Midland. Each team compiled a 14-2 record last fall and picked up over 33 and 31 overall wins respectively. Hastings won the GPAC Tournament by defeating Midland. Three GPAC teams advanced to the Fab Four at the NAIA National Championships in 2016 (Dordt, Hastings, Midland), with Dordt and Hastings playing in the title game. The 38th Annual NAIA National Volleyball Championship presented by F&M Bank and Absolute Screen Art is set for November 28-December 2, 2017, at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The GPAC regular and postseason champions will earn the automatic berth to the NAIA Volleyball Championship. The NAIA Volleyball Championship will consist of 44 teams in 2017, with 32 advancing to the final site in Sioux City, Iowa. There will be 20 automatic qualifiers for the final site from the final ranking (top 19 plus local host). The other 12 teams will come from Opening Round winners played on November 18, 2017, at on-campus sites. The 2017 GPAC volleyball season will consist of 16 conference matches with 11 teams competing for the conference crown. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team in the preseason poll.
