Box Tops Update: Thank you for continuing to bring in Box Tops to your child’s classroom. This past quarter we were able to provide Hahaione Elementary School with 287 Box Tops.

eScrip Update: If you haven’t already registered your Safeway card, please do so at www.escrip.com. Our school receives a percentage of sales each time you shop at Safeway!

Community Helpers Our children have been taking a closer look at people in our community that help us. We were able to take a fieldtrip to the Hawaii Kai Fire Station (and see Skyler’s dad, Jay!) In addition, the Honolulu Police Department Solo Bike Unit came to our school. Many parents have been to our classrooms sharing their professions as well. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to share with us! This month, linesman from the HECO bucket truck will be visiting. The children are learning a lot about the equipment used in these professions, as well as safety related information that they can use to stay safe in their daily lives, as well as in emergency situations. If you have a career that you would like to share with us, please see your child’s teacher! We’d love to have you!

Director’s Corner Spring is arriving shortly and along with it comes new life of butterflies, blooming flowers, insects, and animals. Take a few minutes to stop and listen to the chirping of the birds and look at the beauty of the world God has created….it is so magnificent!
Pauahi Keiki Scholarship April 30th is the deadline to submit applications for the Kamehameha Schools Pauahi Keiki Scholarship for the 2014-15 school year. This scholarship provides tuition assistance to children of preschool age, attending an accredited school. Preference is given to children of Hawaiian ancestry. Details can be found at www.ksbe.edu. Preschool Open Doors Program The Department of Human Services (DHS) will be accepting applications for its Preschool Open Doors program between March 1 and April 30, 2014. Applications received during this period will be considered for preschool participation between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015. Applications are available through PATCH. For details call 791-2130 or visit www.patchHawaii.org.

Recently, we have had a series of colds, stomach flu, and other illnesses affecting our children, staff, and families. May we ask that you PLEASE keep your child home if they have any of the following symptoms to deter the spread of illness: vomiting, diarrhea, fever, constant runny nose or green discharge, and continuous coughing spells. Thank you for your cooperation. If Hawaii Kai Church or the Early Learning Center can be of any assistance to you or your family, please see us at any time. We are here to serve you. Registration for DOE Kindergarten If you have a child that will be attending a Hawaii State Department of Education kindergarten for the 2014-15 school year, registration has already begun. Tours are also being conducted at each of our district elementary schools. Simply contact their office to schedule one. As a reminder, the kindergarten age has changed. Starting August 2014, your child must be 5 on or before July 31 to enter kindergarten. Registering early allows proper planning for staffing at each school, so stop by and pick up your registration packet as soon as possible.
