Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections
STUDENTS PAGE September 4-6, 2011 The Cross and Salvation—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it’s your turn, say: Knowing you respect me to make good choices with my life makes me feel . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:
2. Read Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:18 and 1 Peter 2:24 Truth • Christ’s death on the cross provides the only way of salvation. Untruths • The whole story of Jesus dying on the cross proves he was only human and not divine. • Someone who relies on a cross and all its about has to be a fool. • Some ancient form of capital punishment can’t be relevant to my life today. 3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.
4. Think It Through: A parent will lead this activity. 5. Nail It Down: Say: Think about this situation: You are in a jetliner that loses all pressure in the cabin. Oxygen masks fall from the compartments above. Everyone on the plane begins laughing at the dangling oxygen masks, but you put yours on. Everyone else dies from asphyxiation, but you live. Ask: How does this story remind you of today’s Bible truth? (Answer: The cross seems to be foolishness to the lost, but in reality it is our only hope of salvation.) 6. Pray: Ask a parent to stand with arms outstretched as on the cross. Kneel in front of the cross and pray out loud, thanking Christ for His sacrifice for you and your family. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: How would you summarize the summer of 2011? What were your best experiences so far? Share those experiences with your parents and thank them for the roles they may have played in making those experiences a reality.
