Truth Flowing from One Generation to the Next— Through Strong Heart Connections

STUDENTS PAGE September 7-10, 2011 The Only Way to God—Richard Ross, Ph.D. 1. Heart Surprise (Today a parent goes first): When it is your turn, say: I was pretty young when the terrorists attacked on 9/11. But one way I have seen our nation change because of that event is . . . Something from the Heart Surprise I want to remember:

2. Read Scripture: John 14:1-6 Truth

• Jesus is the one and only way to God. Untruths

• There are many ways to get to God. • Living a good life is all you have to do to be right with God. • Everyone finds his or her own way to God sooner or later.

3. Explore Scripture: Write what you want to remember about the Scriptures.

4. Think It Through: Ask: If you were taking a trip to a place you’ve never been, what are the three most important things you’d want to take? (Family members may say things like money, car, food, map, cell phone, etc.) Say: We all would want to make sure we had a map of some kind to direct us to our final destination. We are blessed because God has provided a map for our life journey. Jesus is our map. But He doesn’t just show us the way to God. He is the only way to God. 5. Nail It Down: A parent will lead this step. 6. Pray: Include this thought in your prayer: God, thank You for giving us Jesus as the way to You. 7. Blessing: Listen as your parent blesses the family. Teen Tip: Build on the “Heart Surprise” by asking your parents where they were and what they were doing when they first heard about 9/11 and how they felt at the time. Share that these kinds of memories are important to you. Let them know that you appreciate their thoughts and memories.
