Weather Forecast: Mostly sunny, Temperature 13-15°C, Wind Speed 8-13 km/h The 9th place play off at the 2010 IRB Junior World Championships sees Ireland take on Scotland in Parana on Monday afternoon, with both sides looking to finish the tournament on a high note after disappointing performances in the Pool stages. Ireland came into this tournament with high expectations after winning the Under 20s Six Nations Championship earlier this year but lost all three games in a difficult group against France, England and Argentina. They comfortably beat Samoa 37-10 in the semi final play offs, including two tries by 18 year old winger ANDREW BOYLE on his debut. Scotland lost heavily to Australia and South Africa in Pool C but followed up those two defeats with back to back wins over Tonga. Ireland have made five changes to their starting line up from the side that beat Samoa, with DAVID O’CALLAGHAN returning at lock forward, DOMINIC RYAN at flanker, JOHN COONEY at scrum half and NEVIN SPENCE and EOIN GRIFFIN in the centres. Scotland have only made two changes to the side that beat Tonga 28-8 in the play off semi finals, bringing in MICHAEL TAIT and CALLUM MacBURNIE on the wings.

JWC COMMENTATORS NOTES (contd) History In previous IRB Junior World Championships Ireland finished 9th in 2008 and 8th in 2009, whilst Scotland finished one place lower on each occasion. This match is a repeat of the 2008 play off for 9th place, when Ireland beat Scotland 39-12. Perhaps more relevant is Ireland’s 44-15 win in the Six Nations Championship earlier this year when NEVIN SPENCE and ANDREW CONWAY both scored two tries and JAMES McKINNEY, who starts on the replacements bench for Sunday’s match, kicked 19 points.
Experience Second row forwards BRYAN HAYES and DAVID O’CALLAGHAN, flankers DOMINIC RYAN and BRIAN O’HARA and inside centre NEVIN SPENCE all played in the 2009 IRB Junior World Championship for Ireland. Four Ireland players have started every match in this tournament; captain and hooker NIALL ANNETT, number 8 PADDY BUTLER, left winger SIMON ZEBO and full back ANDREW CONWAY, who scored tries against both England and Samoa to add to the four tries he scored in the Six Nations Championship and is the youngest player in the Irish squad. Six of the Scotland starting line up played in last year’s tournament with flanker ROBERT HARLEY, number 8 STUART McINALLY and centre ALEX DUNBAR having some involvement in all five matches in that tournament as well as starting all five games in the Six Nations earlier this year. Hooker ALUN WALKER, lock forward DAVID DENTON, STUART McINALLY and scrum half ALEX BLACK are the four Scotland players to have started every game in this year’s tournament. Scotland captain STUART McINALLY has scored three tries in JWC competition, all against Tonga, including one in each of the last two games.
The man in the middle GARRATT WILLIAMSON of New Zealand is the referee for this match, his fourth of the 2010 IRB Junior World Championship. He took charge of Ireland’s 36-21 defeat to England and has yet to show a yellow card in the tournament.
