Fiji finished third in Pool B behind France and Australia and then beat Wales 34-20 in the 5th place semi finals to guarantee their highest ever finish in the Championships. They have conceded 16 tries in their four matches played. South Africa just missed out on the semi finals after finishing runners up to England in their group but put that disappointment behind them with a convincing 57-15 win over Ireland in their 5th place semi final, scoring nine tries in the process. They have scored 152 points in their four matches, second only to New Zealand.

TOMASI KOLO returns at tighthead prop, NETANI QICATABUA comes in at lock, ELIKI SICINILAWA plays at scrum half and JONE WAI starts at full back. Three players have started every match for Fiji; lock forward AMINIO NASILIMOSI, flanker SIMIONE SAWENE and wing JOSATEKI LALAGAVESI. South Africa have also made four changes to their starting line up from the side that beat Ireland, all in the forwards. The front row unit of JUAN SCHOEMAN, MBONGENI MBONAMI and JOHN ROY JENKINSON that started in the 26-20 defeat to England in the Pool stages is re-instated and NIZAAM CARR returns at flanker.

South Africa fly half JOHAN GOOSEN is the second highest scorer in the Championship on 55 points, 13 points behind New Zealand’s GARETH ANSCOMBE.

Fiji fly half JOSATEKI LALAGAVESI has kicked 13 penalties in the tournament, more than any other player. He has scored 51 points in total and is the third highest points scorer this year.

FRANCISCO PASTRANA of Argentina takes charge of this match, his seventh in IRB Junior World Championship competition and his fourth involving South Africa, who beat Scotland 73-0 and England 27-22 in the 2010 tournament and Ireland 57-15 on Wednesday. Pastrana has issued five yellow cards in his six previous matches, including two to Fijian players ELIKI SICINILAWA and SAILOSI DAWAI in their 50-25 defeat to Australia during the Pool stages, and he also officiated in the 2009 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy.
