History

This will be the second time that Fiji and South Africa have met in the IRB Junior World Championships. South Africa won 36-10 in the Pool stages in 2009.

Experience

• •

Fiji have two players in their starting line up who appeared in the 2010 IRB Junior World Championship; lock forward MAIKELI MUDU and flanker KOLI NALASEKATA. Three of South Africa’s starting line up played in the 2010 IRB Junior World Championships and all of them scored tries in that tournament, with five in total between them; inside centre FRANCOIS VENTER started four matches and scored a try against Tonga; outside centre JACO TAUTE played in four matches and scored a try against Australia and wing WANDILE MJEKEVU started all five matches, scoring three tries.

At the double

• • •

Inside centre SEMI RADRADRA, one of just two 18 year olds in the Fijian squad, scored two tries in the win over Tonga. His partner in the centres on Sunday, METUISELA TALEBULA, scored two tries in the win over Wales in the fifth place semi final to add to the try he scored against Australia. MAIKELI MUDU has scored two tries in the tournament, against Australia and Tonga.

Danger men

• • •

South Africa centre FRANCOIS VENTER has scored five tries in this year’s IRB Junior World Championship and is tied for leading try scorer in 2011, with New Zealand’s CHARLES PIUTAU and England’s CHRISTIAN WADE. ‘Baby Boks’ number eight ARNO BOTHA is just one behind on four tries, whilst wing WANDILE MJEKEVU has scored three tries to add to the three he scored in 2010. South Africa fly half JOHAN GOOSEN is the second highest scorer in the Championship on 55 points, 13 points behind New Zealand’s GARETH ANSCOMBE.

Leading the way

Fiji fly half JOSATEKI LALAGAVESI has kicked 13 penalties in the tournament, more than any other player. He has scored 51 points in total and is the third highest points scorer this year.

The man in the middle

FRANCISCO PASTRANA of Argentina takes charge of this match, his seventh in IRB Junior World Championship competition and his fourth involving South Africa, who beat Scotland 73-0 and England 27-22 in the 2010 tournament and Ireland 57-15 on Wednesday. Pastrana has issued five yellow cards in his six previous matches, including two to Fijian players ELIKI SICINILAWA and SAILOSI DAWAI in their 50-25 defeat to Australia during the Pool stages, and he also officiated in the 2009 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy.
