Kingshill Church School Newsletter Friday 27 February 2015 Dear Parents/Carers Welcome back everyone; I hope you had a lovely half term! The children have settled in quickly again after the holiday and I have seen some excellent learning this week. A few highlights from the youngest and the oldest children… Diamond Class learnt about Chinese New Year with Mrs Wilson - they enjoyed learning about the customs and traditions. They had great fun using chopsticks!

Diamond Class are also doing really well with their number recognition and even went on a number hunt this week! Emerald Class are focussing on writing skills and I have seen some amazing instruction writing about how to make an Aztec mask.

It’s coming up to Easter again and we are pleased to announce our Easter Competition again. This year we are inviting the children to make an Easter Garden, an Easter Hat or a Decorated Egg (blown or hard-boiled) or all 3! There will be a chocolaty prize for each category in each class.

Don’t forget our Easter Service at Christ Church on Friday 27 March at 9 15 am. All welcome. We are pleased to inform you that we have recently successfully secured a Big Lottery Fund grant to help us develop our Foundation Stage outside area. The Big Lottery Fund is responsible for giving out 40% of the money raised for good causes by the National Lottery. The Fund is committed to bringing real improvements to communities and the lives of people most in need and has been rolling out grants to health, education, environment and charitable causes across the UK. Since its inception in 2004 they have awarded close to £6bn. The Fund was formally established by Parliament on 1 December 2006. With the money we intend to install new play surfacing and equipment to transform the Foundation Stage outside area into a colourful, inviting learning area. We are hoping to start this project over the Easter Break so watch this space for more information! Jan Thomson Headteacher

Congratulations to all our learners of the week:- Reece, Callan, Sian, Ronnie, Jack, Dylan, Levi, Elise, Jess, LilyMae, Jack, Sam and Aaron.

A few reminders from the KFA this week! Any school uniform that is now too small for your child would be greatly received. We are collecting Sainsbury's vouchers so if you, or someone you know, shops at Sainsbury's, PLEASE collect the vouchers!! The collection box is in the office. The next KFA meeting will be Wednesday 4th March at the Moor End Spout pub. We are looking for some fundraising ideas so if you have a bright idea but are not able to make it to the meeting you can email us: [email protected], find us on facebook; KingshillKFA, or on twitter; @kingshillKFA. Finally I am sure that you will all be as excited and proud of the Kingshill staff and children for the Ofsted report results!!! Well done to all involved!!!! Unfortunately some of our children are not eating their school lunches and there has been a considerable amount of waste recently, could you please refer to the menu on our website under “About Us” and “Key Information” and discuss with your child what they will choose to eat on a daily basis.
